Suppose at launch, Sony sold two models of the ps4, with the only difference being one had full hardware BC. Would you pay extra for such a model?
Or suppose Sony sold an emulator app on the PS Store to allow for BC, would you buy it for a small fee?
If Sony sold an accessory that connected your PSOne, PS2, or PS3 to your ps4 and allowed for ps4 features and upscaling, would you buy it?
If Sony created a system similar to UMD passport in which your physical copies of games granted you discounts on digital copies, would you buy the digital versions?
If there was a subscription based service that allowed for unlimited playing of all available ps3,ps2, and ps1 games through Gaikai, would you subscribe?
I'm not asking if you think Sony will do such things, or how you feel about the absence of backward compatability in ps3/ps4, but if you would pay extra to have it and if so, how much.

I'd pay for an emulator app, but not a separate model. It's too easy for those to run out/break etc. Whereas I'd presume an app would be transferable from within PlayStation 4 devices.
As much as I love games, I could never spend the same amount of time in a place where I hate/look down on, and continue to post and participate.

Good point yourself.

Either way , there's no truly perfect solution apart from making it mandatory for all PS4 models.
It kinda sucks but only very slightly but I'm not big on BC myself. My only deal was having all my PS3/PSN/PS4 games in one device. The only thing I can be grateful for is that they've said that it won't be supported (or at least given doubt to it) this early so I don't mistakenly trade in my PS3.
Not that i owned an Xbox, but same thing that MS did with the 360 by saying it early. As much as I love games, I could never spend the same amount of time in a place where I hate/look down on, and continue to post and participate.

Yes, I would pay extra for a BC PS4. I'd go as much as $100 more than the regular PS4.

Yes. Hardware BC all the way. Will gladly shell out the extra $$ rather than buying the FEW major hit games that MIGHT receive an HD remake or make it onto the classics section!

I won't. I'd rather buy it off PSN on a game-by-game basis.

it'll be a stupid move from Sony or even its competitors to charge for it plus its worst enough that Downloadable games aren't compatible.

Interesting to see varied opinions. I wanted to see if there was a majority for any one option
What do you guys think of the ps4 having the ps1/2/3 disc in the system as an authenticity check and allowing the game to run via gaikai?
Food for thought, having the ps3 connect to the system for BC vs. having native backwards compatabilty won't cannabalize the ps3 sales, and in fact may boost them.Last edited by mini E; 03-19-2013 at 04:57.

Nope... For 2-3 years now I have seen members begging for NextGen to come and the minute it arrives... No BC?!?!?! WTF is everyone wanting a nextgen console for if it's not to play nextgen games??!?!!?

I paid extra for BC last time with the ps3 and didn't really use it for more than testing purposes. My nephew did play a bit of San Andreas though. I wouldn't pay extra again. To hell with it. I want next gen games on the next gen consoles.

Wow... that was actually a very hard poll to answer. I ultimately went with full BC cuz I'm one of those people that is willing to pay a little extra for it even though.... truth be told..... I wouldn't use the function all that much.

There are three reasons for me not do want a bc PS4:
1.) There are PS emulators on PC,
2.) I keep all my consoles, and
3.) I won't be lacking games to play in the foreseeable future (steam sales are a godsend).

I don't need it. If I wanted to play them I'd play them on my other system that I have.

I am not interested at all, because this should not even be a question
It either comes with it or it does not
Thanks to Spyrde/Sylar

I'm quite happy to just keep my PS3 for any games I want to play on it. If I didn't have a PS3 I probably would but I do so, no.
I can read your thoughts.
