http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/20/bu...n-of-war-free/Through March 24, if you buy God of War: Ascension from GameStop.com, you'll get God of War Saga, the PS3 collection with five more God of War games. Don't play them all together, though. You'd probably start seeing everything as a mythological creature to be bisected.
..the saga doesnt include ascension, he says. Well, at gamestop.com it does.

What the hell. I bought Ascension from Gamestop and I did not get the Saga for free.
Edit - It seems that this is an "online only" deal.

1.) No, the PSP titles are NOT download only. They were released as an HD remake for the PS3 named "GOW Origins Collection", later renamed "GOW Collection Volume 2", because the original "GOW Collection" contained the HD remakes of the PS2 titles GOW1 and GOW2. Later, both Collections (the PSP collection and the PS2 collection) were bundled together with GOW3 and renamed "GOW Saga". So there you have it. Every GOW game is available on disc.
2.) The GOW Saga (the product - not the franchise; the franchise itself, if called a "saga", contains Ascension; but the product "GOW SAGA" contains everything EXCEPT Ascension) does not include Ascension, but it includes every other GOW game.
3.) The deal at gamestop doesn't help him in any way, because he'd have to pay so much for shipping to his country. The deal clearly says that IF YOU PURCHASE GOD OF WAR ASCENSION, you get the GOW SAGA FOR FREE. That means you get every GOW game. Nobody ever said that GOW Ascension was on the GOW SAGA disc. Can't people read nowadays?
@ OP: Just buy the GOW Saga and Ascension. The Saga contains GOW1 (originally made for PS2), GOW2 (originally made for PS2), GOW3 (PS3), Chains Of Olympus (originally made for PSP) and Ghost Of Sparta (originally made for PSP). So if you buy this and Ascension (PS3), you'll have everything you need and it's one hell of a deal. The GOW Saga (5 very good games!!!) for 40 bucks? Buy it, grab Ascension too, play them, and have fun. You can play them in the chronological order (I posted it), or you play the main trilogy, followed by the PSP titles, followed by Ascension. Just buy them, play them, and have fun. And don't get confused because some people just write for the sake of writing something.

He was asking specifically about the Saga collection, in which the PSP titles are NOT on disc.

I never played the PSP games, and don't really intend to. Being on PSP, they're not really integral to understanding the series, but I have heard from others that they are decent games. Personally, I think you'll be fine without them.

lol did you even read my post dude? I clearly stated there's a PROMOTION going on at GS, which is if you purchase God Of War Ascension ($60) you get God Of War Saga for free, so that's all GOW games for just $60 dollars, needs to be purchased from www.gamestop.com though.

hmm i actually bought God of War 1 & 2 HD collection after first playing the GoW 3 demo which is prob the best demo i have played of all theres on PSN, but i actually never touched the HD collection again after around 2 hours of play, since it didnt feel as Epic as the GoW3 demo for me. It reminded me more of the original DMC 1 "Light" tbh, but youre kinda forced to play those first if you want to follow the story i guess.
I actually dont think 3 is a bad place to start though due to the more fancy graphics and a more overwhelming feel it has over the older ones if youre just looking for a blast. Personally im not the type of person that enjoys coming in the middle of a story, which im presuming you will with the full game of GoW3, but i think i would have enjoyed it even without having the knowledge of the older ones.
if you dont have a big budget i dont think Ascension or GoW3 seems like a bad place to start. GoW3 can be easily found to half of platinum priced games these days in some stores and almost always at that price 2nd hand

I actually played GoW1s demo first back in like 2006 or something but never bought it until 2008 (just after GOW3 was announced, so thought I'd get into it before they released III), had mixed feelings about it at first but after half way in to GOW1 I loved it. It's still my favourite of the series followed by III.
