Cedar Rapids opens Zombie Survival Camp!

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - There's a group of kids you won't find balled up on the couch watching television or playing video games this spring break. Instead they are living a popular storyline -- preparing for a zombie apocalypse.

Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation is sponsoring this two week zombie survival camp. 27 kids are running around the Ushers Ferry Historic Village this week, chanting, marching and learning.

While at camp, the kids make emergency survival kits, build shelters, and navigate their way though a wilderness. This is the camp's second year, with the idea stemming from a child participating in another city sponsored camp.

Program coordinator Ann Cajka says while the kids have fun, they also take away some fundamental skills.

"We found it actually has a lot of opportunities for naturalist interpretation and emergency and disaster planning, even some historic skills, so we put together a zombie camps and it's just immensely popular," Cajka said.

Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation will organize another zombie camp this summer.

Haha, now all those Iowa jokes won't matter anymore cause of this. Good idea. I wish I had something like this when I was a kid. I was only introduced to zombies through Resident Evil 2 on the N64.

My daughter wouldn't be running, but I don't guess they do too much firearms training at that camp.

40 zombies? That's why I have a 100 round clip. But for fun I may break out the Saiga S12 and a pair of 30 round drums.

Here we would just treat it like open hunting season, no license required. It's a state with 26 million people and an estimated 51 million guns. We could give a gun to every person serving in the US, Russian, North and South Korean, and Chinese militaries and still have a gun for every man, woman, and child in Texas.
