Secret Feature of the DualShock 4 Controller?

If you look closely at the DualShock 4 you can see how the touch-pad is clearly a separate piece and rightly so, as that would be the best way to manufacture it, but we at PS3Center are starting to consider whether or not you could remove the touch-pad altogether and potentially replace it with a touch screen or a keypad in the future.

And even when inspected from the top, the upper portion of the touch-pad is needlessly rounded, and the form factor indicates it could in fact be a hinge. Again, this could reveal a screen or hidden ports or buttons inside, possibly something else.

Obviously this is all speculation, but Sony did say that this concept was still not completely finalized and some changes were likely to occur at the launch of the console. Do you think we have something here? Or we just dreaming?

So it might seem that a detachable touch pad from the main controller...

Could this mean extra touch to gaming

Interesting. Maybe detachable and another add on takes its place.

I am pretty sure it is like that because it is just clickable, but it would make for an interesting feature! You could buy a touchscreen OLED display to snap into its place similar to how the Dreamcast controller worked. Maybe even store the battery in that area so if you need a new battery it would be easier to replace too!

It could be something for the VITA or it could be used for another attachment for their up dated move

Does anyone else think the touchpad on the DS4 is the dumbest idea ever? I am actually annoyed that they added that to the controller. I would rather have an LED touch screen or something.

Microsoft has Kinect to scroll through menus
Nintendo has the touch screen to scoll through menus

Did you really think Sony would go to market without a option to scroll through menus as well? I rather have the touch pad than the other two options because a touch pad doesnt take a lot of controller battery power like a touch screen does and i rather have something real and physical i can scroll with than use gestures to scroll with Kinect.

    Its great!

Yes and no...I think it will help with scrolling through stuff, or zooming in and out of things, but I agree with you, I think they should have included a touchscreen instead of a touchpad, it would have opened a lot more innovation with one!

You can scroll with the analog stick or d-pad. Nobody needs that tiny touchpad for that. And I think like 1 of 10 actually use Kinect to scroll through anything lol.

You could technically use it if there was a cursor on the screen so you can easily move the cursor around similar to a laptop, or if you need to pinch zoom on a picture or map it would be better than jacking with the d-pad or analog controls IMO. Would make browsing the internet and clicking on buttons much better!

The loudspeaker is a dumber inclusion.

I'm glad it's a touchpad that you can also click rather than a touch screen. If the web browser is any good for example you could use it like a laptop trackpad

Since this is or is not a great feature... Sony needs to explain why it was not mentioned at the reveal

I think it looks like that because you can click it to be honest. Only reason I could see it as being detachable is for future accessories but I'm sure it's just because of the clickable aspect. I guess we have to wait until June to find out.

Why would you mention something simply isn't there? Especially when you did mention the item that makes sense for the slight gap that you can see?
