With the focus on "always on, always connected" by MS, and "background downloading" by Sony, are we about to see the phasing out of individual DLC, and a focus on title support?
I suspect the preference would be to get people buying into some sort of "online maintenance" support package, that guarantees you game is updated with the latest DLC. Both consoles are basically coming at us form the "turn it on and you games content has been updated" aspect.
And with multiplayer, specifically requiring most people to have DLC up to date, I suspect we are about to get stung in the COD/BF4 rear.
Sinister turn of events, or just the way the next gen is going to bepayedplayed?

Before these season passes the DLC playerbase was less and less as time went on so most people ended up playing the base game anyway makign the DLC a waste of everyones time and money.

DLC is perfectly fine when it expands the story with new game scenarios. So I don't think it needs to go away. As for costumes, weapons and such, I believe it depends on how much money you put towards the base game to begin with. Though they really should include all assets if they can meet their deadline.
But I hope there isn't a phasing out of individual DLC. I think it's important to pick and choose what you want, again, if all of that stuff just couldn't make it in the base game in time.
Free DLC would be nice but that's wishful thinking. Unless it's something like a high-resolution texture pack for the PC version.Last edited by Blacksite; 03-22-2013 at 01:48.

DLC's are good for certain games i guess... But i see no point in them
The game should come with everything on one disc or at least two disc's so we can install the extra content onto are consoles

You know I kind of like DLC, I'm a big FPS fan at heart so I would soon get bored of the maps. But season pass what is this? Could you please go into more detail of what a season pass is?

A season pass is when you pay quite a bit of extra money. And it entitles you to all dlc.
Most of them are priced like you pay for 3 dlc's and get the fourth one free effectivly.

Thanks to all the ones who says "I am ok with DLC or Season Pass" we will be forced to season pass somehow and after a while season pass + DLC pass + pay to play + give me your a$$ pass + let me rip you pass... There is no end to this... Arigato!

I was really disappointed with BLOPS 2 and the maps that came with the vanilla game.

Well here is one... If we have this season pass bullshit, why Game Of The Year Edition as well
I mean we will all just wait for that instead of wasting money on all the DLC's... And even the one's that do not make GOTY, they still get a collector edition later on
I mean it does not take a genius to work out that you hold off until then for all in one or on TWO Disc as i have been saying

I think there are some games that would benefit from season passes as opposed to individual DLC. I purchased Battlefield premium a month or so ago, and so I have all of the DLC ... but how often do I play maps from the most recent expansions? It's quite rare, unless I want to search for a lobby specifically playing a map from one of those DLC's.
From a price perspective though, I understand that season passes as opposed to individual DLC's is quite a burden, especially if you're not planning on dedicating too much of your time to the game. If there is a shift, and I believe we're already seeing the emergence of season passes alongside DLC's in the present, I think game publishers and developers will need to ensure that season passes are reasonably priced, and to some degree cheaper than purchasing each individual DLC separately.
The sweet spot? Individual DLC's offered for, say, $15, and a season pass that values each DLC at $10. I think that would be a significant enough a discount to get more people to purchase season passes, thus eliminating the Battlefield problem while keeping customers' wallets happy and allowing gamers a degree of choice in how much they really want to play or invest in a game.SchaffinOSX

Yeah I was annoyed when I bought Battlefield 3 when it came it was just the vanilla version then 6 months later they EA bought out "Premium Edition".
