So it´s almost confirmed: Nextbox will require always-online connection. Congrats MS. Nice way to hand over next-gen to Sony. Lulz

Nothing is confirmed until Microsoft confirms it.
"The biggest adversary in our life is ourselves. We are what we are, in a sense, because of the dominating thoughts we allow to gather in our head. All concepts of self-improvement, all actions and paths we take, relate solely to our abstract image of ourselves. Life is limited only by how we really see ourselves and feel about our being. A great deal of pure self-knowledge and inner understanding allows us to lay an all-important foundation for the structure of our life from which we can perceive and take the right avenues.”

I'm going to go out on a limb and say there were probably some interesting meetings going on in Redmond yesterday over the subject. It IS pretty clear that they had intentions on using Always Online, but whether or not they are staying that course after the fallout from this remains to be seen. As long as they think that people are fooled by their sterilized PR statement, they have room to negotiate whatever it was they thought they were going to win by having an always online console. (My guess is, it was a buy in for publisher relations.)

So, are we just assuming he knows nothing about the NextBox based on this? No developer has officially claimed to be working on Nextbox titles.
And given he just indicated he is, we can guarantee that he isn't. You cant whinge about nda then confirm you know something.

We have no earthly idea what is in its launch window. I simply fail to see how you come to the conclusion I've been trolled.
No, lol i was saying he was trolling the net.
I also don't see how anyone has said MS has made a stand on the issue of Always Online with their statement.
who said they have? it was generic pr statement.
They took careful measure not to speak on anything regarding the 720 and essentially apologized for the guy being a $#@!wad about it.

I'm really sorry to say, but MS had a golden opportunity to make their stance on online connected DRM fairly plain and instead, left you with nothing. The inpenetrable fortress of silence around the 720 is failing.. It is failing hard.
It fails until such time as they choose to open up. And then it will be forgotten. Unless of course always on is true.

Oh and then there is this from mr lake...

No, if I actually knew if this was true I wouldn't have posted that - that's a one way ticket to firesville.

Honestly and I'm being honest here
Always on is not really a problem, the machine can always be switched off and we're always online when gaming anyway
The requirement is the main problem

I am against an always online console.... Because it would cost a far more than an offline console

I'm being the devils advocate here again but would it really? Its not like we can't switch the machine off, its no different really is it other then it being mandatory to use the machine, most of us won't see the difference
    Or am I missing something
The DRM stuff and everything is all wrong but it being always connected, is it that different from someone who has auto login?
Don't get me wrong, I ain't defending MS this is TGO here
I'm just talking about the connected bit

Look at it this way, you pay for your internet evey month right and on top of that you past for a GOLD subscription for a full year and that is not cheap and then the Mirco-transactions that will come with some if not a lot of games and then DLC's on top

This will not be cheap running an online console all the time... In my opinion online should be for P.C gaming only

Because it makes more sense for P.C gaming only, unless MMO's and RPG's that require an online option can be on a console but only if a game requires it...

Because not all games will require an online to play

If MS doesn't pull back from this idea, the next Xbox will be DOA. They're going to launch at the same time as the other guys that are NOT doing this? It's suicide.

Always on is a problem. America is the major install base for Xbox. 40% of Americans don't have high speed Internet or live in areas with stable Internet. Is MS really going to "give away" 40% of its install base to Sony?

Exactly. I really don't think MS is this stupid. If this is true, they win the award for the most arrogance of any company.

Yeah that would be monumentally stupid. And monumentally arrogant if MS thought that everybody would just "jump in" on this.

what does mr. lake mean by this?
All I've heard from my dev friends is what has already been posted on other sites, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the info out there is pretty close to the truth.
The the other rumors might be close?

Now regardless of this being true or not...because there is 40% people out there without internet, does that also mean that they're in the market for buying a console?

Are we selling these consoles to the other 60%? Nope and nope.

that gif lol something has to be true out there...

i'd say for sure the EDRAM + 8GB GDDR3 RAM has to be true and likely a bigger (could be slight to moderate) OS.

If they do this, they basically killed their third world market. Internet is crap in many third world nations.

If it's not required it's not a problem since you always have the choice to disconnect.
