New Sources Says The 720 Will Require an Internet Connection To Start Games[rumor]

The Next Xbox Will Require an Internet Connection To Start Games, Sources Say

Two Kotaku sources have added more credence to the rumor that the next Xbox, expected to battle the PlayStation 4 in late 2013 or early 2014, will be an always-online system, though it will be able to tolerate dropped connections.

"Unless something has changed recently," one of the sources told us over email, "Durango consumer units must have an active internet connection to be used."

"If there isn't a connection, no games or apps can be started," the source continued. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time--currently three minutes, if I remember correctly--the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."

There's more at the link about their sources, ect.

That would be the most obnoxious thing ever. In what world is that a good idea? What if I want to take it somewhere and play it where there's no internet?

I know, right? MS can $#@! off if this is true.

Maybe they figure the offline gamers aren't important.

Course not... they wouldn't be able to make as much money off them.

I don't think MS is that bold to do this. Well at least I hope they aren't.
It's funny that in this day in age people can steal as long as they have a reason too. Even if that reason is created by the thieves themselves.

Might be just for the downloaded games. Some PSN games were like that. Annoyed me a little when my net went down which although was quite rare stil made it impossible for me to play that game.

Kotaku are hardly the most reliable of sources. The stuff they got right about PS4 they took from VG Leaks, who in turn took pretty much everything from EDGE (who actually seem to have legit sources).

So I guess we shall see. If it's true I think MS have lost the plot.

I don't see MS being this dumb. They will lose a great deal of sales from this. This will shove me from maybe to hell no. I'm sure this is just a rumor.

    All of my feels.

The surest sign that you are on the right side of a debate is when you find yourself against those who are stuck in the past because they have no future.

I will still buy the console if this is true. It's not all that bad IMO.

40M live members/76M total consoles: 52.6% of consoles have connected to live. I'm sure MS is just going to cut off the 47.4% of console owners that haven't connected to live.

Seriously could people here be any more gullible? I think not.

Not me. And how is that not bad? Anyway I agree with Matrix. MS would be cutting their userbase almost in half. I dont see it happening.

this would be a bad move, and i kind of doubt that either MS or Sony will actually attempt this kind of thing next gen. Its just a stupid idea.

It's not bad for me because my devices are connected anyway. It would be a downer for the masses but I don't think MS will go that route. Right now it's just a rumor. If this happens it may not be as bad as some think and MS does want to increase it's userbase. I'm down for an always connected console. I think it's a good thing in some ways.

What if your internet goes down and you want to play a game?

I fail to see the positives in a console that requires internet in order to play any games.
