I don't get it. Can someone explain it to me?

Okay, so you're a young woman. You're age 14-19. You can be in college or high school, doesn't matter. You have access to birth control. You can use:

    the pill
    the patch
    the shot
    etc

Each is a form of birth control and you can choose how long it lasts. You also have condoms if you don't want to use birth control and condoms prevent spreading STDs.

    Here's what I don't get.

You understand that with a child, things become harder. It's harder, much harder to go to school and work all with a child. You also have a boyfriend, but you become pregnant without discussing it with him. In other words, instead of saying "Honey, I want a baby." you say, "Honey, I'm pregnant." You get what I'm saying? It's not like you wanted the baby, it's just an accident or something.

You know ALL those things, but you end up pregnant ANY WAY!

It doesn't make any sense to me. They had to stop taking the birth control unless the 1% who get pregnant just turns out to be you.

Why do these girls stop taking birth control? Do they want a baby? I don't get it.

The pregnancy is considered an accident, but how could it be an accident when you are on birth control?

Then we need more education. High schools need to make sex ed mandatory to graduate.

the girl probably lied about taking pills? or ineffective pills? or like you said, the 1%
That is true, the girls could be lying about taking birth control. 1% isn't enough to where the teen preg rate should be this high.

But why wouldn't a girl want to take birth control? It's not painful or anything.

I'm not trying to look down on my classmates and other girls, but I just don't get it. I'm one of the very few girls of my color in my class without a child.

Schools should still educate the children on sex but there is only so much you can do. Growing up is tough and many people learn the hard way, they do stuff and it bites them in the ass, that is how a lot of this Sex education came out in the first place. It's like climbing a latter 400 ft up in the air, now the person above you hasn't looked down but you happen to look down. You say...oh $#@!, don't look down... but the person looks down anyway and starts freaking out. It's not that they don't listen, it's the point at that time they just don't think about it. Some teens want a baby and I think this stems of playing with dolls at a young age, caring for dolls, then they want a real baby. The need to want evolvs more and more.

It's not the State's responsibility to teach sexual education. That's a parent's responsibility. The problem is less with the school, but more with the individual and their family situation.

Birth control does terrible things to you.

    Teenagers don't know anything.

Sorry, guess I shouldn't say they don't know anything...I'm too old to relate to teenagers now.

It's a bunch of factors. Lying, missing pills, etc. Somethings also counteract with birth control like antibiotics. Although I'm sure that is not the case the majority of the time. More or less stupidity.

Started reading this thread and suddenly felt really creepy reading the sex opinions of what is clearly a bunch of kids who don't know much about sex or reproduction.

I'm not going to play Daddy and try to teach some of you all about the birds and the bees here. Instead, I'll just make two simple points.

    1. Kids are irresponsible. Birth control, drinking/drugs. homework, it doesn't matter. When left to their own devices kids are irresponsible. (And by "kids" I'm including people in their early 20s as well)

    2. There is a word that is commonly used to describe kids who use the "pull out" method, "timing" method, or other old fashioned ways to try to prevent pregnancy................ Parents.

As for myself, birth control ceased to be an issue shortly after my daughter was born. I had the one I wanted, now I'm fixed and certain to have no more.

You should know two things about humans. They're lazy and have no control over themselves sometimes.

I've given you two things that will answer so many questions, you have no idea.
