There is no expiration date. It depends on a lot of factors. Primarily how well you take care of it and luck.

I still have a launch 60Gb that hasnt had any major issues. Other launch consoles died a few years ago. Its not a question that has a simple answer.

Too many factors to say something like this. Each console is built to last as long as possible. My 120GB Slim has been working great since the day the original slim came out

I have had my 120GB slim since Oct 2009. My fatty died after about 2 1/2 years of use. I used both units almost daily. The slim seems to hold up pretty good IMHO.

If you take care of it - clean it twice a month, make sure the system's well-ventilated - I'd expect it to last as long as you use it, I don't think the Slims get YLOD, we bought a Slim 2 years ago too, and it's been going like a rock (knock on wood), and this sucker's faced some serious power outages, like multiple power outages a day, pretty much through all summer both last year and the year before that. The hdd gave us some trouble (the things aren't designed to coup with intermittent power failures) but even that is going pretty strong, probably going to swap in a bigger hdd later this year though.
Don't worry yourself over it, just make sure you backup your hdd stuff on a weekly/biweekly basis, if you are concerned over loss of saves and other data. But even that is just more about self-assurance than any real issue with the Slim's longevity.

Mine lasted around 1.5 years before the power supply was ruined. Though that could be down to me leaving it plugged in for 8 months without touching it once.

Had my slim about two years now, i think...when it gets noisy, i hoover the air intake holes, and its sorted for another 6 or 7 months...solid as a rock.

Mine has been working fine for about a year or so. The console does occasionally make noises indicative of the plastic contracting, but it hasn't had any performance effects for the several months it has been doing so, nor can I see any physical signs of any problems.

The best you can do is take excellent care of it, checking it out and dusting the fans every now and then. Nothing will protect against some random malfunctions, though. Like others have said, there is a degree of luck involved in a console's life.

The PS3 slim is a solid console. Probably the best built that i've owned.

I've had mine for about 3 years now. I traded in the fat PS3 for it and never looked back.
