Did you like it or not? Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

I had planned to start this series of threads on the game I'm currently playing. In fact I had no intention of doing one about Uncharted at all. However while I was playing the new Tomb Raider and listening to peoples opinions on it I noticed a trend. A lot of people were stating that Tomb Raider was better then Uncharted 3, but not as good as Uncharted 2. In other words, people preferred Uncharted 2 in the series the most it seemed.

Well I am going through a massive backlog of games and I finally finished Uncharted 3. I gotta say, this series continues to blow my mind. I had put off playing the first Uncharted until right before the release of Uncharted 2. I beat uncharted 1 the day before picking up uncharted 2 then picked it up and played the second title. Wow what a difference between those two games. The generational leap felt between uncharted 1 and 2 was pretty huge. Then uncharted 3 came out and I was so busy playing pc games that I kept putting it off. Well this weekend I finished it. What an amazing experience. Some of the sequences in this game blew me away. The ship yard and boat fights, the plane crash, the horse riding sequence. Amazingly fun. You get to see background between Drake and Sully. And there is even a moment where you start to realize what the deception from Drake truly is all about.

What I did notice though, is there didn't feel like such a massive leap between uncharted 2 and 3 like there was from uncharted 1 and 2. Is that maybe why people see the second title as being the best in the series? I'm not sure, but I can see it being the case. Anyway, I had an absolute blast playing this game....truly epic experience.

So my question to you all is...Did you like it or not?

The 3rd game was better than the 1st but no where near as good as the 2nd. Tomb Raider was also better than it!

Uncharted 3 just felt too similar, which of course if both a good thing and a bad thing. It didn't really add anything new and Naughty Dog used a very similar story. So it's a good game of course, but I had no desire to play it again.

When it first came out it also had horrible control's which have been patched since, Maybe if i had played it with good controls i'd of liked it as much as the 2nd?

Thats one benefit I'm finding in my delayed play of all my games. Patches have come and gone to fix glitches and flaws at launch for alot of my titles. So in a lot of ways I'm sure I'll be playing a slightly less frustrating experience with some of my late gen playthrus then most.

I liked it but not as much as 2. It didn't make me have that wow feeling I had with 2 but overall I did like 3.

Uncharted 2 definitely wow'd me with it's increase in graphical prowess. But that aside, U3 still gave me a highly entertaining experience. I just hope peoples opinions between the two aren't specifically driven by the evolution in gfx that U2 received from U1.

I got the game on launch, controls were fine. I dodged every trailer for it so I enjoyed it more than people that saw that stuff and the e3 trailer that showed important parts(I heard)

I don't care about the graphics. They had a chance to develop Drake more as a flawed character, but that was only poked a little. The story was very similar, yet not as well paced as the 2nd - It didn't pick up until the 10th chapter. It also didn't help that the story randomly jumped everywhere in the world, making the set-pieces feel disconnected. In 2 the levels and set-pieces flowed so well.

However, the game was still good and had its moments of brilliance. It just wasn't an instant classic like U2 was.

I'm on the same boat as everyone else about, Uncharted 2 being the better of the series. Like, Naxi said, it flowed beautifully and performed a significant leap compared to the first game. Uncharted 3 is great, loved every bit of it, especially the story revolving around, Drake and Sullivan.

Graphics had nothing to do with it to me. Just the jawdropping gameplay.

Well, it looks like I'm going against the grain. The third game was amazing, but not as good as the first. The first game set everything up for the rest of the series. After all, each game follows pretty much an identical story progression. That said, Uncharted 1 was the one that fleshed out each of the characters, and it did so very well. Uncharted two, while it had better mechanics, did not seem to be as good as Uncharted one to me. And the twist in that game REALLY put me off. That said, Uncharted two probably had the best environments and overall flow of continuity. One thing I didn't like though was the massive emphasis of Uncharted 2 on combat. Yes, combat was present in one. However, in Uncharted two, Drake goes from being an adventurer/explorer/thief with combat expertise, to a combat specialist with adventure/explorer/thief hobbies/tendencies, what have you. There is a huge difference.

That being said, Uncharted 3 really returned the series into the story telling mode. I felt more comfortable playing 3 in that it's story flowed well, was more "realistic" (Kinda, but not really given everything that happens), and returned the character's back to their roots. I felt that in Uncharted 3, Drake went back to being a thief whose learned how to fight overtime, and wasn't the God of war that he's made out to be in Uncharted 2. Not to mention, Uncharted 3 has better exploration scenes, instances of Drake just trying to find stuff. There were also a lot of "slow" scenes in three, which were mostly lacking in Uncharted 2.

As for replay value, however, three is definitely at the bottom of the series. As it's so story-line driven, the moment you've learned the story, there isn't really anything to go back to. Uncharted 1 has very good replay value, but it's combat scenes are, for the most part, unilateral. Most fights have only a few certain paths to going about them, and each fight usually has one or two ideal methods. In uncharted 2, however, each battle has nearly limitless possibilities, making Uncharted 2 the best of the three in terms of combat (Uncharted 3 also had amazing combat, but many of the scenes were scripted to occur in specific ways: Hide here. shoot from there. take cover over there. etc).

In essence, Uncharted one was my favorite, but staying on topic, Three was a very enjoyable game, and going on a one-play through analysis, was probably my second favorite of the series. (One-play-through meaning if I had only played each game once, sequentially).

Uncharted 2 was the game changer for the entire franchise and Naughty Dog itself. However. Uncharted 3 brings more of the same with 10 layers of awesomeness and polish on top. Gotta love the freaking game. One of the best games this gen BY FAR.

I think U3 is was pretty good. But face it, I think everyone is experiencing sequel fatigue. Uncharted 3 didn't really feel unique, even though the set pieces were pretty awesome and had a good story, I was underwhelmed. If U4 had released on ps3, I probably wouldn't have wanted it. I feel the IP needs some time off, many people saw the Uncharted formula by the third game, and was more about going through that process than experiencing a game on a large scale.

Scud is right , series needs some time, but at the same time Uncharted series will pump sales of ps4. Sony surely have hard time to find the right answer about this. But overall every uncharted series are very good , Nathan is an amazing and funny char, graphics are stunning. So this series is very good overall.

Uncharted 3 is my favorite PS3 game. Everyone seems to like the second game more which was no doubt amazing but UC3 just felt like it was the culmination of everything that made this trilogy great.

Yes, I liked Uncharted 3. It was better than Uncharted 1 but not as good as Uncharted 2. I agree with what other members have said, Uncharted 3 didn't have the wow factor that Uncharted 2 had. All three of them are great games, and I can't wait to see what Naughty Dog does in the next gaming generation.

The multi-player isn't whack. You are entitled to your opinion, unfortunately. ;p

Uncharted series was a pleasant surprise for me. It wasn't on my radar but once I discovered it and played it, it became my favorite series.

As much as i enjoyed it, it seemed too short. UC2 was a rollercoaster ride from start to end, UC3 felt a bit... go here go there bish bash bosh ya done. I think UC2 just had a fantastic balance between action sequences, puzzels and platforming

    Uncharted 1 was absolutely amazing.

Uncharted 2 was also pretty damn amazing.

Uncharted 3 felt more like watching a movie. Too many quick time sequences and lame boss fight. Game looked incredible, but certainly felt like an action flick to me.
