"The launch lineup for PlayStation 4 -- though I unfortunately can’t give the title count -- is going to be stronger than any prior PlayStation hardware. And that's a result of that familiarity,"
    ^I can't wait until e3.

And the talk about installing games in the background from blu-ray leads me to believe that we'll have a 1TB hard drive in the consoles.

It's good to see there are dedicated hardware units to handle the input-output of data.

So, tessellation for the triangles you see and the ones that you don't. Pretty smart way to handle a bottleneck.

So does this mean the PS4 can install the game in the background while we play?

"So, what we do as the game accesses the Blu-ray disc, is we take any data that was accessed and we put it on the hard drive. And if then if there is idle time, we go ahead and copy the remaining data to the hard drive. And what that means is after an hour or two, the game is on the hard drive, and you have access, you have dramatically quicker loading... And you have the ability to do some truly high-speed streaming."

That is what I am understanding, but the real question is whether you have to actually have the game disc in the machine after it installs to the hard drive to play the game...

Looks like my prediction about PS4 returning us to the awesome days of the PS2 era might be true.

Thanks to the development friendly architecture of the PS4, we're going to get a huge quantity of games, which in return gives us a lot of different genres to pick from, and obviously also increases the number of quality titles.

This is a win win situation. I'm really excited =)

I agree with the games part but returning to the PS2 glory days? Doubtful. Sony could very well become number one but I dont think we'll ever see PS2 era dominance ever again. And I'm sure MS console will be easy to develop for as well. Sony is just taking a page from MS book by dumping the cell and going with more traditional architecture. However I do think Sony will have the superior lineup of games next gen.

I agree I don't think we will see something quite like the PS2 again. That said the architecture is simple and powerful. That's something you can never underestimate. Developers will be able to make games that are great to look at, and great to play, all without complaining about the difficulty it is to work on. I'm excited and I hope this generation of gaming is better then the last.
