Yup. Now that both systems are doing that will people now not buy any system?

I am getting both even though they are both leaving always on up to the publisher.

People been knew the ps4 had this option. What you seem to not understand, since you asked the question, is the difference in the previous rumor. Up to the publishers(optional) is way different than it being required(no options). And with that said and as I planned on doing with the ps4, I'll just simply not buy the games that these devs/publishers decide to add this online system.

See, no biggie in changing one stance given the change on the specific "always online" subject. I hope that some people get it through their heads that opinions on subject matters can rightfully change. Especially when details change on a specific subject.

This is risky but i can understand why some publishers are behind it. They are definitely going after the used games market.

Of course. Which is why I said people are changing their opinion on the subject being that the 2 sets of xbox "always online" rumors are very different.

It appears that this is how it's shaping up. I was figuring that Sony and MS would be doing similar things so that one doesn't outdo the other.

I remember this subject being discussed years ago by certain publishers. A lot of them (and devs too)are upset with places like gamestop for what they are doing. Used games sales are a consumer choice, but at the same time it really has been bad for the industry.

It makes sense. They own most of the IP's so they should have a say in it.

Yea I don't care about sharing even though i own in every online game i play

but I don't get why people have a problem with this...were were expecting next-gen to be any different? Giving power to the publisher is fair and just. PCs have that! You guys think PS4 won't have some sort of DRM either? I doubt that.

I find the sharing feature in Xbox more intriguing, I actually wouldn't want to be bothered with pressing a button but I do like the idea of automatic recording of certain events.

The achievements system is definitely looking good, I think it will really allow developers to guide in which way people should play their games. Now one can screw that up but I think it'll be more helpful than not. There are times some achievements are ridiculous and if they can modify these things, that would make much more sense.

All in all I think it's going to be a really good reveal...if they can truly push the social aspect without adding things that just make the subscription go up then that's cool. I think MS will do a better job at the social aspect, something Sony just doesn't get.

There are better ways to combat piracy over implementing a requirement that only punishes people that are paying for your product.

I would say more but it is up to the publisher so the decision is left to us to decide whether we support these publishers or not.

My problem is that the XBox seemingly needs to always be online itself. That makes implementing always-online DRM a mere triviality for the publishers. I think the DRM will be uncommon at first, due to the bad press they will receive, but four years down the road? You'll hear them say "But your console is always-online, anyway. Why do you care?"

The fact that PS4 and WiiU work offline means that always-online protected games will be obvious and detract from potential sales to the userbase. With 720 being always-online, it's almost as if MS is a bell-hop holding the door open for publishers to implement it without impunity. I think this is a pretty significant difference. This DRM technology has evolved faster than the dialogue about it. Will games be clearly labeled that implement this kind of thing? Will they need to be labeled on an always-online console?

One thing is very apparent on almost every forum. XBox supporters were very vocal about Microsoft's special arrangement with EA until this Always-Online debacle broke to the internet. The Sim City launch was a travesty of epic proportions. There's been a bit of an uneasy hush about the whole thing as of late. The gaming press has been unusually mum on the matter as well. IMHO, gamers have every right to be a little upset about these rumors.

Next-gen achievements can also be tied to broader events, like a weekend challenge or a communal goal, like contributing a set number of kills to the bigger goal of 10,000 kills over one weekend. Companies can also create cross-title achievements, like awarding points for finishing the first chapter in two different and unrelated games published by the same company. Some of these bigger, cross-title, communal achievements will be a requirement for all titles.
Microsoft is playing around with cross-platform achievements as well. Ideally, these achievements could be earned by playing a game on the next-gen system and then using a companion app, a website or maybe even by playing a specific game, like a prequel to a next-gen title, on the Xbox 360.
..Ill lose my $#@! if this becomes true and Sony copies this, I hate Multiplayer acheivements enough having to power through a weekend or play ANOTHER GAME will just be utter bull$#@!.

I have to agree. If a publisher puts out an always online required game on the Xbox 3, then people should choose with their wallets and not buy it. Just go with games that support offline instead. But who knows, maybe all the big publishers will go with the online DRM option on the consoles this gen.

I think we will know at least a little more after E3 next month.

This could end up in MS' favor. If a dev wants on-line DRM and Sony and Nintendo doesn't have it, they may make deals with MS for exclusives or DLC.

If a developer wants to add a online DRM they will do it
Even on 360 or PS3 they can do it
This ain't a Sony wont let it happen so developers will go to MS if they want a always online DRM
its a "maybe required be default" on NeXbox and gamers don't want it or it'll stop people from playing games
Thats not a attractive feature for developers
Although MS seem to be leaving it up to devs
But we've heard that before haven't we.

of course it's up to the consumer and IMO it's not punishing them at all. You are going to pay for the product regardless. This isn't just about piracy though.
