Online question

Im new to online gaming but I noticed something today that I thought was different than all my other games, my friend was also online I was able to find him and join a game with him from the start was not in progress, it was shuffling the teams like normal but it put us on seperate teams, was it just coincidence Ive have always been on my friends team in the past?

Also when we did get put on the same team it didnt mark him with blue font, I could swear my friends on my team were identifyed with a blue name

You're suppose to join his party first you just jumped into the lobby that your friend was in.

oh thanks so in theory it was just random we ended up in the same lobby?
