It won't last that long, probably six months at best, you're better off just replacing it with a Slim.

It varies on how long they last, but it should last you til you're ready for a PS4.

Doing the reflow using a heat gun and thermal paste costs next to nothing but is only a temp fix. You will have to re reflow it again and again you might get another few months each time.
I reflowed mine twice got it workin for a few motnhs extra but the 3rd time it failed for good, nothing I can do.

The newer Slims seem to have a really low failure rate, I haven't seen any failure posts anywhere on the net, but even the regular Slim seems to be really low as well, only seen a handful of YLOD problems.

Nothing lasts forever. Getting a new PS3 slim is your best bet.

Reflow won't do anything. You must re-ball the GPU and CPU. Must clean the BGA spot, install new solder balls on the GPU and CPU and then most important. Must use liquid cooling not the stupid fan. Today I have opened my dead PS3 that I will use on it liquid cooling and the thermal grease was completely gone its an incredible and the fan and heatsink that Sony gave us. They are completely garbage and cause more damages.

fixing it is just temporary. slim or super slim is durable. throw that junk away.

It may be temporary or not it depends on how you do it i did one that still going after 2 years using a reflow station you must hit specific temp to properly re-ball rsx and gpu.

Wouldn't bother with the shims personally
