(Rumour) Xbox 720/Durango facing licensing issues?

    http://www.mondoxbox.com/en/news/384...e-blu-ray.html

Licensing issues? I don't think honestly that this would be an issue at all. But would be funny they decided to scrap BluRay and went back to DVD - because there's no problem with swapping 10 DVDs mid-game right?

Again - I'm sure it'll be "wait for May 21st".

Having to launch in 2014 would cost them dearly.

Ouch well hopefully it wont be to far into 2014 if true. They need that blu ray with how they want to make the xbox the center of your entertainment center.

Honestly, I don't think it's true. But if it were; doesn't it mention Europe only? Dunno - wouldn't be so bad if that were the case - at least it wouldn't be worldwide.

Yeah but EU is known to get stuff late and if what they say about PS4 having release dates so close it could hurt them. I dont think it will tho because MS has brand loyal buyers and they will wait.

I don't know if a simultaneous release will hurt anybody really. Weren't they planning to release (both companies) round about the same time period anyway?

Saying that Microsoft won't license bluray for their Xbox is like saying Samsung won't license bluray for their disc players. I can already tell the story holds no water.

Sony do not own Blu Ray 100% they helped develop it with many other electronics giants much like they did for DVD and CD formats.
Also doesn't Blu ray movies use codecs developed by Microsoft?

I don't know if that's what they're saying. I think they were just saying that it may take some time. And not that it wouldn't include it.

This article is bull$#@!. First off, it's an Italian source. Second, what exactly does a "blu ray license installed" mean? Third, if Sony were to deny the license this would be in court as it's anti-competitive.

Yeah - isn't it a consortium? With other companies.

So it wouldn't really be Sony's fault/call either way.

It could still technically be correct though - if whoever group of people decided to make it a pain for MS.

And in turn what, get MS to pull the most useful Blu-ray codec there is?

    I don't think so.

Lol not saying it's gonna happen, chill.

Seems very childish either way(not granting license, pulling codecs).

Its not the way business is done that's for sure, it would be like MS pulling windows support for Vaios.

All liscences and agreements are taken care of in the designing stage of the durango kits. This would have been done 3-4 years ago. I wouldn!'t take this rumour with a grain of salt.

I think most of these rumors are hilarious. A few weeks to go and i'm sure we will get about 10 more before the 21st.

I think that is the license to actually play movies.
eg. WiiU has a blu-ray player but not the license to play movies.
