Definitely glad they will go into it. There is so much depth to the KillZone universe. The Helghan are so much more than intergalactic nazis. It's actually very hard to choose a side to sympathize with in the conflict.

The surest sign that you are on the right side of a debate is when you find yourself against those who are stuck in the past because they have no future.

Yep I want to know more about them. I hope in a future KZ game that we get to play as a Helghast soldier and see the war from their viewpoint.

i have been reading the article, interesting info, they have confirmed its 1080p. Is that new info?

Also steven ter heide says can have upto 60 characters on screen at any one time, with fully fleshed out complex animation and AI!

    30 vs 30 multiplayer possible?

    No it is not new.
Same news that confirmed it was a launch title also confirmed it was 1080p 30fps back in February shortly after the PS4 reveal.

THey were pretty cartoonish in the last killzone. At least the main baddy was.

But reading into how the conflict started, sure, I can see how they were probably 'forced'. But imo, the vents of the last few games make them more vengeful more than just wanting to left alone.

To me, still the bad guys.

This will be a game for the single player for me, I loves me some sci fi. I hope they can make the online fun, but as I never enjoyed the last two online, I think this might head the same way for me.

As I recall, Shadow Marshalls actually moonlight as Helghan and try to keep the peace by infiltrating splinter factions within Vektan and Helghan. So, there is definitely the possibility of missions in Shadowfall where you are lacing up your Helghan boots so to speak.

Their whole planet got nuked. How is there even any of them left? Unless a significant number of them were off-world.

Also, despite their background, the Helghan still don't come across as very sympathetic to me. They have too many villain tropes working for them.

Their history doesn't paint them as good at all. There are parallels with early 20th century Germany, but evil rose to power due to extensive exploitation after WWI. Helghast were always evil, and they volunteered to go back to Helghan. The games already make it black and white.

The Helghast are a community who spent centuries under oppression, don't forget they were the original human inhabitants of Vekta. They were forced to move to Helghan and mine resources for the rest of their lives, for refusing to pay Earth exorbitant taxes.
previously this work was carried out by machines and managed by the Helghan from Vekta.

The Harsh conditions in Helghan caused the majority of Helghans to be wiped out, those that survived did so due to mutations. Its similar to what the Soviet Union did when they wanted to punish a group of people or steal the resources beneath their feet, they where captured and forcibly relocated to siberia where the majority of people died.

After such long suffering, among them Radec was born, whose sole mission in life was to re establish what they had, and exact revenge. To do so he converted the workers and miners in to a military force.

The early part makes it sympathetic. Even the Radec part is understandable. But the cartoonish/Joker type of General in KZ 2/3 make them laughably black and white 'bad'.

That's the most heartbreaking part of Killzone. The back story is almost completely ignored. I would love to play as a the Hellghast, too see the complexities of their history and their identity explored properly and in context. i think it was Radec that coined the term Helghast as a reaction to the oppression.
