basically if Sony had tried to repeat another Cell (or blu-ray-like) disaster, i was going to consider MS, then PC and Nintendo.

But Nintendo have no rival in this debate, because they had no chance to match both MS and Sony's power and exclusive content

and that's why they are an attractive option. but PC first as no one controls PC...well, valve now has some power as Steam is very important to the PC platform but i haven't heard anything bad so far and they still aren't majority there.

So MS and Sony should have took a idea out of Nintendo's book and tried something similar

MS' didn't give a $#@! that their in-house area was lacking as time went on, since they knew their goal was for going more for entertainment, social media sort...whereas Sony's was to "we-gonna-fix-all-this-$#@!-from-OS-point-of-view" so they didn't give a $#@! that people wanted the PS3 to have all those Live features and kept chugging along. bottom-line, both $#@!ed up hard.
Agreed. But it isnt as much where you start out as it is where you end up. And to just say MS gave Sony a "buttkicking" is to convienently ignore Sony closing the gap. And at the end Sony was still coming out with good first party games while MS first party pretty much fizzled out after Kinect. Both companies had their share of missteps over this generation.

well, so far Sony isn't doing anything crazy like that so they're maintaining that balance. Nintendo is just doing...nothing lol but if Sony was also doing something similar then Nintendo still would seem attractive.

Well, one can say that both kicked one another's butt and MS improved some things while Sony improved some things ...and they both also majorly $#@!ed up too in their own ways.

    it's really 50-50.

Well sony did lose about half of it's user base and they fell way behind in the US. As a matter of fact, I think the xbox360's lead over ps3 in the US is greater than Sony's lead over MS in the rest of the world combined. Sony took note of that. I'm not surprised by the moves they are making in the west. It's crucial that they have a good start here.

how did Sony lose half of its user base?

while sony did lose support, it's more important to note that it has more to do with the fact that MS received more support than Sony losing it. there are more multiple console users than ever before.

PS3 is more or less 25m sales behind PS2 YTD after 5 years down the road. lack of games in the beginning, high price point are to blame there. it may not catch up to PS2 but it's going to be get closer in the next 5 years.

MS didn't just do better than before, they actually kept a behemoth off them until the end. that's fair play. It was the kick Sony needed to better themselves.
Yeah but it wasn't the 360 that took the crown, the Wii did instead and 360 fall to last even with Sony stumbling everywhere, like I said they did very well but they ended up behind the both the competition in the end.
MS was like Brian from Fast & the furious
It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning
And MS didn't have it's console.
But yes Sony $#@!ed up and lost the most.

Fact remains both ended up with about the same worldwide userbase so those other territories obviously did add up. If anything Nintendo kicked both their butts.

Pretty much MS started strong, Sony started weak. Sony finished strong, MS finished weak. Practically tied.

In Molyneux's world, we're all busy with Fable 3 and playing around with Milo.

For the most part they are though. There really isn't going to be much else coming out for either system that is going to boost sales. They will still sell some but mostly this generation is over. GT 6 is probably going to be the last exclusive for PS3 and not sure if there are any 360 exclusives in the pipeline. Could be just haven't kept up with much 360 news.

The start was great for MS. So great that almost everybody though they won this generation. But now in 2013 i donīt see any must-have exclusive for Xbox360 neither for 2014/15/16 and so on. On the other hand PS3 having one exclusive AAA+ after another and will properly still get some nice stuff way beyond 2014. So in the long run i canīt see how MS has won "this generation". The Xbox360 is now only a multiplatform console with Kinect.

Xbox360 has Titan Fall and world of tanks. Plus they just released Ascend Hand of Kul. I'm sue there will be more in the next 2 to 3 years. Same with ps3.

    Cat got your tongue?

I was just thinking about and PS3 pretty much kept the 360 back. PS3 was the lowest common denominator if you really think about it.
