I love how Matrix changed his argument from controllers completely dying to them actually still lasting 10 hours.

My argument is that a sealed battery is bad because it will either die or degrade over time and you cannot remedy that.

Either option is not ideal. With the 360 you can quickly swap out AA batteries or a battery pack. With a Sixaxis/DS3 you have to send it back to sony (IIRC, I don't know if that is still an option).

    No.
I agree that having the option to change the battery out yourself is ideal. However, my controllers from 2008 PS3 are still working just fine. I've yet to have a single one of them die on me.

Seriously, there are few games that are even 6 hrs long...let alone more than 10...and 10 is conservative for the controller. I have launch controllers and have noticed no degradation...and without rumble they last even longer...but the ones with easily last more than 10 hrs unless i'm playing something with constant rumble. That said even the most avid/hardcore gamers don't play regular sessions for longer than that....and if you did....your telling me you didn't get up once to use that can or grab a bite that you couldn't reach over and grab your extra controller that is charged.....your arguement is very weak.

You have a preference and that is fine...so do others...but I've never even heard of the battery dying in a ps3 controller. I've seen sticks and buttons wear out....get crap spilled in them...but if a battery died...wow...never...and that would be just a defective battery...thats an outlier..not a norm.

To me that is just laughable that there are batteries in that.....very wii mote like lol. There are great things about the xbox controller that people can say....but lets be real...the battery thing is so dvd....upgrade that $#@! and lets move forward.......I would bash it more but lets be real...your controller will probably never go dead...because everything is voice operated and gesture controll....kinnect IS your new controller....so basically this is just a throw in/after thought.

Ok...that was harsh...I can't lie...it has been YEARS since I've had anything related to microsoft that I was pleased with....so perhaps I'm biased. There are definately things to get excited about with the new console...especially the thought of the great new games that will come...but this controller thing...its kinda silly....silly old tech....and yet probably silly to matter a lot. It's not a deal breaker....but its kind of like Sony throwing in composite cables....just kinda tacky.

It's silly to try to spin this into a good thing. Rechargeable as standard without having to spend nearly $20 per controller is a good thing. Especially since PS3 controllers have such a long life, I expect PS4 controllers to be similar.

But it is also silly to blow this out of proportion. No rechargeable batteries as standard on Xbox one. It's a negative, but a very small one.

Well same as last gen. If you want rechargeable best solution is to buy the battery pack from them. Makes sense from a business same point. I wonder if we will have to pay for WiFi extra this time around too lol. I remember having to fork of over 100 bucks to get rechargeable and WiFi with 360. Smart business tactics.Cheeky bastards!

Anyways..... I loved the quick charge kit on the 360. Snap out the old battery..... slap it in the charger and grab the other charged battery and click it in to the controller. Reminds me of battery quick changes on cordless drills.

I preferred this over the PS3's method...... but I didn't hate the PS3 controller over it. It was a relatively minor issue for me.

To think in this day and age the controller doesn't include a rechargeable battery as standard is proper lame. Not a deal break but still proper lame.
Its the sort of thing I expect from a console in the 90s.

My DS3s last way longer than 10 hours. Also had one since about 1008 (I'd still have my SIXAXIS from 2007 most likely).

This really is a non-issue. Rechargeable batteries are easier to replace than a controller further down the line and dualshock required recharging while I could immediately continue on the 360. Even then, these are minor nuisances.

    Minor issues indeed.

I have 3-4 DS3 controllers laying around so when one dies I can pick up an other one.
I have 2 360 controllers too, though there I can just change the batteries and keep going.

Personally I prefer the built-in battery of the dualshock. It's cleaner and I could do with less juggling of AA batteries and chargers.

I prefer user replaceable batteries. Simply use a battery pack or rechargeable batteries. Good thing is that you can charge and play at the same time.

You know why it uses batteries? Because it is a remote for watching tv.
I thought it was lithium ion.

Why would you have to spend nearly $20 per controller? You can get rechargable AA batteries for about half that. $15 if you need the charger too.

Personally I prefer the rechargable AA batteries to any other solution since I can use the batteries in other devices in a pinch. There has been more than once when I've taken the batteries out of my 360 controllers to use in the TV remote, my daughters toys, etc... You never know when batteries will die so it's nice to have a non-proprietary solution.
