Personally I prefer the rechargable AA batteries to any other solution since I can use the batteries in other devices in a pinch. There has been more than once when I've taken the batteries out of my 360 controllers to use in the TV remote, my daughters toys, etc... You never know when batteries will die so it's nice to have a non-proprietary solution.
You never know where they could end up.

never had a PS3 controller battery die on me, but have had a couple of the 360 charge pack batteries die.

Batteries are a money pit. First thing I did when I bought my 360 is buy the lithium ion rechargable battery packs. They pay for themselves within a month or two. I still think it was bull$#@! that I had to buy said battery pack peripheral. It's just one more thing you have to buy. :-/ My PS3 controllers from way back when still hold a charge and are still going strong.

I don't really need a water cooler/remote control as of right now.

The official xbox brand. the recharge kit. I think it was like 40-50 bucks in the end I spend for the batteries and recharge station.

They aren't lithium batteries, they are NiMH.

My bad. I guess I should have just said re-chargable batteries. Whatevs. Either way, something the damn thing should have come with.

Meh, they give you a pair of alkaline batteries. Pretty surprising people don't have rechargeable batteries around the house though.

They only last literally 2 charges, then they only last a few minute. Why would anyone keep such abominations around the house

Are you using sanyo eneloops? They have a 1000 charge cycle life (standard version).

I have the same problem with my WiiMote, 8-10 hours with just the WiiMote, 3-5 hours with the CC plugged in, and they're 2800mAh rechargeables IIRC. In the end I just end up using a GCN controller plugged into it.

Nice to see it uses AA and rechargeable packs like the 360. It's the way to go.

Personally I like the detachable pack that can be charged while not in the controller and I like the 'emergency' capability of shoving a couple of AA's in (or rechargeable AA's). I don't like having the cable from the console to the controller draped across the floor while charge-and-play. So this, at least, is not a bad design decision.

Of course this is about the least important thing to come out of the reveal.

What I want to know is if it is both a wired and a wireless controller like the PS3 controller. When I want tighter latency in my favorite fighting game, I want to know that lag never got me killed.

There will be more lag to the other player in another state than there is with the controller.

I don't think either way is that bad. It comes down to preference.

Mine don't lay around. They come in handy when I need them. It's also nice to play and charge at the same time too.

I've heard those mentioned a few times, but to be honest I've been let down to many times but rechargables to give them a shot.

These are the standard by which other rechargables are judged.
