I am. The money isn't a problem (waiting and modifying my case is) and I am not most people. Just because some are happy with air doesn't make water-cooling overrated. It provides much lower temperature that even the highest end air cooler couldn't even get close to. If price isn't a concern then custom water loops give the best results. Needless to say you can get higher overclocks with lower temps for both your CPU and GPU and if you want to go that further you can cool your chipset and RAM.

It's more about being able to do what you want really. As I said, the PC i'm building is a project. I've never done a custom loop before so i'm certainly going to try one but not until i've got 2 780's in my build.

This just seems redundant to me. Is there are known reason for nVidia pushing this forward?

That sounds about right. I think waiting 3 generation of cards before upgrading is the sweetspot. My 2 5870's are holding up still but reaching/are at the end of their life now. Makes perfect sense for me to upgrade to the seven series.

At that price I am not interested. I'll wait to see what AMD offers next, and will either buy one of them or a 79XX series.

I wanted to try an Nvidia card, but their price/performance compared to AMD doesn't seem worth it. Plus, given that next-gen consoles are AMD based, I do wonder how this will affect PC gaming.

Tbh watercooling isn't actually quieter, it's the same as air cooling really - depends on the fans you use. If you go with noctua's or gentle typhoons (which you should!) then yeah it'll be nice n quiet.

HI 5 for being a fellow 570 owner

I have the EVGA Superclocked Version & can still game on Max or Close to max settings on virtually any game I throw at it (I get around 50fps (35+ on heavy scenes) on C3 with all settings on highest & 1x SMAA @ 1080p) & thats without Overclocking it some more

I was gonna look at picking up a 700 series Card but I think I will wait for the 800 series

If you want it quiet you need a big as heck radiator, fanless. Zalman make a tower thats about 2 feet high.

It would be quieter than air cooling. I'd have 12 fans spinning relatively slow vs a few fast ones. - I was actually looking at the Corsair SP range. High pressure low RPM as well as using a big 80mm radiator it would get rid of heat very easily!

I was reading a few logs of people having a similar set up that I was planning on doing and they say the loudest bit was hearing the pump start up.

I'm not sure why anyone is trying to argue that water isn't better than air for both cooling and quietness

So. Have the 680s dropped in price now?

Using an EVGA FTW Edition GTX 670, see no reason to upgrade atm whatsoever.

I don't see the point in upgrading as soon as the next generation of cards are out. If I was in your place I'd wait for 980. 2-3 years depending on your initial card seems like a good time to upgrade for me.

But you can have those same 12 fans (or 8 in a more sensible sized case!) in an air cooled build too. You just replace the heatsink fans with the rad fans, and you'd use exactly the same type for each, high pressure.

Watercooling is better yeah but noise level is all about the quality of the fans.

The Noctua fans seem about the best quiet fans out, they seem to be one of the few using biomimicry.
They have serrations on the blades which control vortex production similar to how owl wings work, ever heard an owl fly? No because they are super quiet.

I couldnt find any Noctua fans over 140mm in size. Case im planning on upgrading to has 3 200mm fans and 1 230mm fan. Only fan i could replace with Noctuas is the back exhaust fan which is 140mm.

IS that in the side panel the 230mm fan? I had a case with a side panal fan about that size.

Noctua's and Gentle Typhoons are the best I have experience with. Both are very quiet but both do have a slightly annoying whir to them. And both are expensive too, if you want a set of 6 you'll be paying nearly 100
