There's a lot of advantages to having an HTPC as opposed to a game console and it might suit your tastes better. The controller and Kinect work pretty well with one as I've been hearing.
I think that would be an option for some people, but a PC would be more expensive and bigger in size, especially if you wanted the latest GPU in it for games.
Then you have console exclusives and things like the Madden series that don't come to PC anymore.

I personally think some form of DRM is going to be part of the future of gaming anyway, on all platforms.
Think about the future, consoles one day wont even have a physical media option, you wont need it for games, movies or music.

You can apparently sell steam games. So it could be possible with a dd system.

But you're saying that they won't go down the path of Steam.

I'm saying that if it's anything like Steam then I don't mind, if it's anything like what it has been, I'm out.

Maybe I would buy used games if they weren't 60 dollars each...

I don't think it's viable because I know that it will be cracked. All DRM schemes have been cracked in the past and I know that this kind won't be any different. There is no long term viable defense against piracy and to keep trying different methods for the same thing ultimately proves fruitless and a waste of money. In fact, it costs the developer more to implement and maintain DRM measures than to just focus on the core product in the first place. Not to mention, the consumer eventually gets fed up and begins to rebel against such measures.

That is true, that is very very true! Also since it will now be using x86 architecture it will only be a matter of time before people get PC's to mimic the consoles using some type of bootloader, etc.

At this point it isn't very clear, it could go either way.

If it doesn't go down the path of Steam in the next decade, it's going to crash, that's all I'm saying.

We already knew that but because ms is getting trashed about it, the grave diggers started digging for something that wasn't there in the first place just to say "hey look, Sony is doing it too" bahhh

This deserves to be bumped to show how FUD is made. Geoff Keighley has always been a pinhead and in Microsoft's back pocket for at least 13 years. Now, he looks really confused, not that he wasn't already. Almost every single big "secret reveal" he had was already well known or he ends up wrong. There were at least a couple times, he had some big reveal announcement, then never said anything. Let's shuffle this guy to his pigeon hole as far as anything credible goes.

    From one of the comments:

Everyone needs to read the "source" (link provided in article and below) where the author alleges "SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida admitted to Famistu magazine this week that Sony changed its stance on DRM after hearing all the negative feedback stemming from the Xbox One."

Because absolutely NO WHERE in the source does that ever come up. This article is VERY misleading and the author is clearly trying to push a narrative that is simply NOT TRUE.

Omg. It will work like the ps3. 1st party games will have no online drm. 3rd party will be like fifa is now for example and ea said they won do it anymore.
there will be no srm for pa4, sony does not need to say any more on this after e3.

Polygon basically translates this into "Sony had DRM in store for PS4"

..when it more than anything sounds like "Well, we weren't planing any DRM, but seeing the recent MS DRM fiasco, we decided to stick it up their own a**".

-"It's not that our hardware policies are decided strictly based on user reaction like this, but when we were thinking about what we had to bring across and how to bring it across, it was a very useful source."
