Wii U skipping football games in 2013

If you picked up a Wii U console at launch thinking that you were in line to receive the standard bulk of multiplatform games along with the PS3 and Xbox 360, it looks like that feeling has come up way short. Football fans in particular are the latest to take a big blow, as it has now been confirmed that FIFA 14 nor PES 2014 will not be coming to Nintendo’s next-gen console.
Why not? The Wii U has arguably the better hardware potential according to some expert opinion, but that is clearly not enough for publishers like EA or Konami. You’ll already know that EA has taken a hard stance with the console, with FIFA 14 and also Battlefield 4 some of the big names that won’t be appearing on the system – not to mention any other Frostbite 3 game in the future.
Konami has stuck the knife deep into the wound further this week, by confirming that they are not bringing the PES 2014 Wii U. While this may be understandable at first since every other publisher appears to be on the same bandwagon, Konami’s decision is even more bizarre when you find out that they plan to make a Sony PSP version of PES 2014 instead – not PS Vita, the PSP.
Konami has cited a ‘lack of demand’ for their reasons, but we argue that a lot of people would still buy PES 2014 for the Wii U if it is there on the shelves. Perhaps a petition is needed to send the message across, because as it stands, it’s a sorry state of affairs indeed to see no notable football games coming out on the Wii U in 2013.
With EA and Konami’s Wii U stance unlikely to change overnight, it could be a long wait as well until Wii U owners see the light of day regarding a new football game. Perhaps Nintendo needs to look at this closely and try to find a solution to cater to their customers who want to play sports titles on their system.
As a Wii U owner reading this, what are your thoughts on FIFA 14 and PES 2014 being off the Wii U software list in 2013? Did you honestly expect this outcome when you were picking your console up at launch?

I don't understand the "lack of demand". There would be more people interested in picking up a Wii U if developers would get over the seemingly strange Gamepad design or fear of putting extra work into optimizing their engine around the Wii U's architecture so that we could see more games.
