PS4 - The Cheapest Playstation Launch Oz has ever seen

    PS1 - $699.00
    PS2 - $749.95
    PS3 - $999.95
    PS4 - $549.00

Following Sony's eventful press conference that declared launch prices of USD$399 for North America, with Europe and the UK at EUR399, and GBP349 respectively, local Sony representatives have now confirmed to us the Australian launch price for the console as AUD$549.

The announcement leaves the PlayStation 4 $50 cheaper than the Xbox One Australian launch price of AUD$599, whereas USD$399 for a PlayStation 4 is $100 cheaper than the USD$499 Xbox One launch price in North America.

This is amazing. More still (if true), I read that NEITHER MS nor Sony were going to be selling this new hardware at a loss. If THAT's true things have really changed and I can only think that customizing parts instead of going "off the shelf" is HUGELY more expensive than I ever thought it would be.

All you have to decide is what to do with the time give to you....

Wait what? When I was a little one the PS1 was easily over $1000AUD on release just by itself :S

Eh, either way. It's good to know we won't be the ones making it cheaper for other countries as much as usual.
if I am in the PS3 or 360 section I will NOT post about the competitor just to please people, if you want to know what I think about the competitor link me to a thread in the appropriate section

This. Strahyans and Koiwois alike can have more for launch games/accessories (for both consoles).

    #IndieStation4 and proud of it.

The PS1 was actually that expensive? Wow!

I'm really quite surprised at the release day prices for this console. Well done to them!

I'll be getting from Playasia.com for $399 USD. I don't agree with how we get taxed in Australia. The PS4 is a prime example. Our dollar is stronger then the greenback yet it's $150 more expensive here. Not this little black duck no chance.

$649 in New Zealand. 5th of december is the placeholder date. Pretty sure our PS3 bundles were close to 2 grand at Harvey Norman at release.

Oh it's disgusting. Huge mark-up on everything. I bought a Galaxy S4 for $1049. US has them for under $300. I can't even remember how much my PS3 cost. When i bought the PS3 Slim, that was $600 dollars.

    Hi Avecha,

heh, seems nothing's changed. I first became aware of the price disparity with Oz way back when I read about it in an Amiga magazine back in the early 90's. One word processor which here was like $200 or something, over there was like $600. It was an absolute rip off. It sucks major.

Indeed it does. Worst part is i think they group us with Australia for PSN game releases. We miss out on a lot. We give the world Lord Of The Rings and all we get back is over-priced technology
    :P

The price is $100 lower than I expected. Gives me enough money for an extra game and almost covers the first year of PSN+. BOOYA!
