Should English be the official language of the United States?

Children are taught in English. Tv and movies programs are mainly shown in English. English is a major language in the United States. So would it be a problem if English was made the official language of the United States? You could still speak and learn other languages and you could still watch Soccer on ESPN Espanol.

I'd say English and Spanish. At least, English since it's more widespread.

    This is weird. Interesting though.

Would've thought that it already was.

They do, atleast here. You are required to take a foreign language class (in high school and some middle) and for example the job I'm getting requires a year of Spanish

Yep. It's surprising that they don't have an official language.

I think English should be the official language in England, slim chance of that though.

Didn't know it wasn't. I guess the different between official and de facto is barely worth noting nowadays

Then thats your business. I can speak German but don't have to, I chose to learn it.

Why should an American, who has no intention of leaving the country, be forced to learn a language that isn't the official language. Which is english.

I have basic level French and Spanish skills, I don't plan to use them if I don't have to.

Wouldn't Spanish would make more sense if someone aint gonna leave the country?
Or do it the British way Just point and shout louder, then if the foreigners still don't understand smash the place up.

Never been to Fance but I was taught it in school, it comes in useful soemtimes when watching movies or TV.

You'll def need French in Paris. They refuse categorically to speak English.
