I really wish it was 1TB instead, but seeing as I already dislike the current PS4 price point, I'll stick with the 500GB and be happy.

Yeah I'm happy with the 500gb hard drive. I've read that Sony is doing the same thing that they did with the ps3 and allow you to install a different hard drive if you so choose to do. So, that 500gb could be 1tb or more.

500GB seems to be plenty for me, at least in the beginning. I may get a bigger one in the future.

Yes. Because I can have disk based games...which eat up a lot less hard drive space than mandatory installations. Hell, even if each game had you install 3 gigs of data, that's like 166 games giver or take that you can have installed at once. I think I'll live for now. If things get too crazy I'll just get a 1 TB drive and install myself in a year or two.

I don't really need a water cooler/remote control as of right now.

A 6x BR drive should mean no mandatory installs. But for digital, it'll need upgrading at some point, I'm almost out of space on my 500GB HDD in my PS3.

I probably would have said yes prior to joining PS+ about a year ago and downloading a lot more games (for free.) Now, 500GB is barely enough for me on my PS3. I moved from 80GB to 500GB about 4yrs ago do to lack of space, and I'm at around 350GB consumed at the moment. No videos, No music, No pics, just game stuff (I keep the other stuff on HTPC, TiVos, Laptops, Tablets, Phones, etc - no need to have it on my PS3.)

Anyway, I can see consuming 500GB in the first year, then needing to play the - Do I keep this or that game - then the PIA of backing up and restoring everything to a new HDD.

I'm debating whether or not to upgrade the HDD on day one or not. The only thing that's got me on the edge is how it will handle a hybrid drive, is it a 7mm or 9.5mm height slot and how big will typical games installs be. I hope we'll have some reports on this a little before initial launch by those folks lucky enough to get some early units.

All this said, I didn't really expect them to be anything beyond 500GB on the launch edition. They will always be at what's the bottom rung of mass production drive sizes to stretch their dollar/yen/pound/yuan/...

Considering its 100 bucks cheaper than xbone and the ps3 came out at 600, I'd say you should be happy with the price

I'm more happy that the hard drive is replaceable then it being 500GBs. I think SSD is gonna be the way to go though. It should cut the load times in half at least and decrease texture popins. I just hope we can install full games from the disc to our hard drive this time around.

Its a small amount but I hope they allowed for more space than 9.6mm because then we can upgrade to 2TB or more.

Ill echo someone that said disc based games would take A LOT less space than mandatory installs. 500 would be plenty for me

If they are then the disc will still need to be in the drive otherwise we could install the game and sell it on and still play the game as long as its on the hard drive.

I prefer xbones and Steams way of doing it to be honest and thought Sony would do the same.

I really like the idea of installing everything to the HD and just putting the disc away for good, which I know the Xbone will do, but as it means draconian DRM then having to keep the disc in the drive for PS4 is a small price to pay I guess.

Yes, I'm more than happy. My current PS3 is from the Uncharted 3 bundle and it's 250 gb I believe. I haven't even filled up half of it.
