Tretton on E3, PS4: “Never a Better Time to be a Gamer”, Making People Happy is the Best Feeling “In the World”
June 13, 2013 Written by Sebastian Moss
Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, made a quick appearance on the PS LiveCast to share his thoughts on E3 so far.
He spoke to Sid Shuman, PlayStation’s social media manager, about the near-universal positive feedback for the PS4, which is widely considered to have ‘won’ E3:
I said at the start of the press conference – what gets me up in the morning is our consumers. These passionate gamers. You know when they’re happy, and unfortunately, you know when they’re not happy. But, you know, they motivate me and they drive me. It’s such great satisfaction to be able to bring them great entertainment and to know that you helped make some people happy. There’s no better feeling in the world. This is in contrast to Microsoft, who have said that they need to “educate” gamers about why they plan to force people to go online.
Tretton also talked about indie developers, and what that means for PlayStation 4:
Never a better time to be a gamer. I mean, creativity comes from all over the world and instead of having to depend on big budget studios to provide creativity, you can have one person/two person teams, anybody can be a developer. And we want to give them the opportunity to self-publish, and we want to do anything we can to lower the financial barriers. We want to bring all the creative juices available in the world to PlayStation, so that ultimately, anybody who owns our machine, has the best possible games to play.Have you been made happy? Are you excited for all the indie games? Sound off in the comment below.

SONY and nintendo get it, they are making 'toys' for gamers and toys are made for pure enjoyment.
The Wii U might be drastically underpowered for 2013 but if the right updates happen on the network side and good games comes I may get one with my PS4.
-[ Over half of the 100~ish UHD Blu-rays on the market ]-
-[ I wouldn't even watch if they came free with my breakfast cereal ]-
Even if it's the illusion that Sony is making me happy, I'm good with that. I'm happy so far
Sent from my Nexus 4
I'm a happy gamer indeed.
I agree with that sentiment. It is kind of why I chose my career path.I talk to myself because I'm the only one whose answers I accept.
Jack Tretton is so genuine, he's the $#@!ing man and I'm glad Sony is helmed by people who understand gamers. He made the whole gaming industry happy by being the level 99 White Knight of gaming.

this is why i have switched to playstation, and been an avid fan since 1997. there is no systems out there that have provided the level of enjoyment when it comes to gaming that i have had but the playstation lineage. and it will continue with the ps4
Sony seem laser focused with the PS4. Good on them.
Funny remembering those articles we've had this year about PlayStation brand losing appeal, or Sony should exit the console space, and just $#@! like that . At this point you'd probably have to say gaming needs Sony o_O
Kaz becoming president and CEO of the corporation is great news for us gamers
I never really had a thing for Jack, but he's now my biological father.
His speech at the end of their conference did it for me. My son and I, we were applauding while our other Xbox friends that were at the house were upset lol.

I was all smiles during the end of that conference, loudest I've ever applauded at anything.
