    Planetside 2 On PS4 | New Details

    Here are some new details taken from this video:

    -Footage of the PS4 version will debut at SOE Live (Aug 1 - 4).
    -Taking advantage of the native stuff (Remote Play, share, DS4 touchpad)
    -2 separate teams working on PS2 (PC team & PS4 team). PS4 team is porting the PC version including all the current updates and they're working with the PC team so all the future updates can be implemented in the PS4 version.
    -The game is being optimized for the PS4 hardware. Claims the PS4 version will look like the PC version running on a high end system with everything on max.
    -He assumes the PS4 version is behind the PS+ paywall just like every other PS4 online game [Yoshida has since confirmed the game won't require PS+ to play].
    -They want the game to be available at launch for the PS4, but they're not committing themselves to it. Will hold back the game if it's not ready when the system launches.
    -They've been spending a lot of time making sure the game is optimized for multithreading and taking advantage of the PS4's RAM.
    -Right now there's no PC-PS4 cross platform play. They have some ideas on how to bridge the versions [doesn't sound like gameplay], but nothing to announce at this moment. Might have something ready for SOE Live.
    -The PS4 version has some unique things like the DS4 touchpad support, but they want it to remain as close as possible to the PC version. Updates might not come as frequently or as fast as the PC version though cause of certification [they've done a really good job at keeping parity between the DCUO versions, so I doubt the delays will be long].
    They claim it will look like the PC version on Max settings, which a lot of people are skeptical about, but who knows what they'll achieve with proper optimization.

    Also, it seems they're aiming to be a launch title. That'd be epic.

    Why would people think that a maxed out current-gen game wouldn't be possible on PS4? PS4 games already look waaaaay better than Planetside 2.

    I know because I played PS2 maxed out before (got bored of it now though).

    A lot of people on GAF say that they have more powerful processors than the PS4's Jaguar and they're not able to run the game at max settings.

    But some are also saying that the game just isn't well optimized yet.

    Plus the code can be much further optimized because there arent multiple hardware configurations to consider. They can optimize their code for one set of hardware because all PS4s have the exact same hardware. Plus you dont have tons of programs running in the background. As already mentioned we've already seen better looking games running on PS4.

    Yeah watched this the other day, cool stuff. I expect it to look comparable to high settings on PC but with certain things dialled back, like shadows. As for frame rate I hope for 60fps but expect 30fps.

    It's very badly optimised yes. Has everything to do with people on screen. if you're wandering around alone you'll get solid 60fps, but the bigger the battle you're in the worse it gets.

    Ehhh, I don't see that happening but I would loved to be proved wrong. But like already said, could be that the game isn't optimized well.

    Well ... Dead Rising 3 looks better than Planetside 2, and that game had hundreds of zombies on screen at once.

    My point is, it's a next-gen title that looks way better than PS2, and has a ton of stuff on the screen.

    No real reason why a proper console port of the game shouldn't match the best settings of the PC version.

    You not right here! You compare SP game, wicth always look better, with MP game. But in SP games you always know how many characters will be on the screen at the same time, in MP games not. I remember 1 night assault in PS2 when it turned from squad on squad to around 200x200. And if youu look at night battles every trasser is a light source that requre allot of power to process

    Sure did, and they where all duplicates of one another with about 3 variations...of the same animation.

    Yea, and PS2 has duplicates with what, 5 or 6 variations? And each class probably has recycled animations for every faction.

    But w/e, I know multiplayer games always, for some reason, have to look worse than SP games. It's a shame.
