As usual, COMPLETELY dodges the 24hr check and the concept of consumers being limited. He said there aren't limitations lol. Sheesh.

That was painful to watch. Angry Joe is trying to get some straight answers and Major Nelson was dodging left and right. I like Major Nelson, but he copped out on some questions. The scenario Joe described where if a developer like CD Projekt wanting to opt-out of the DRM and Nelson saying they would "work with them" if they wanted it was very telling. The fact that such a scenario would require "work" and apparently some sort of negotiation tells me this it is not all up to the publishers as far as DRM. This stuff is in the very fabric of the Xbox One.

lol he didn't really let him talk at all.....I thought it was funny where he had to take the mic from him. This interview was pretty much useless. AngryJoe isn't a good interviewer.

Transistors in the cloud? LMAO! Anyway yeah he really dodged that 24hr check in question and the concept of consumers being limited like F34R already said.

Good point Larry. And yeah DRM is definitely built into the Xbox One DNA. LOL@MS trying to blame it all on the publishers.

If you have family sharing and a way to use your game collection at a friends house, it makes it hard to not have a 24 hour check in place.

If you could go offline forever, someone could share their game collection to a different X1, disconnected from the internet, then that console would have a bunch a new free games to play until they went back online and got the 24 hour check again.

Im sure theres away around it, but it's doesn't sound that easy, they would have to make some kind of offline mode you put your X1 in that locks out these new flexible features.

I think Microsoft is pushing for the future, but some people aren't ready for the change.
Wouldn't surprise me if they adjusted a few things before launch.

Well....they are kinda pushing for the future and kinda trying to keep a hold of the past/present at the same time. The future is 100% digital content, no discs, period. We all know that. So Microsoft wants all that....but with the discs as well and all the DRM of the 100% digital future in a still disc-based generation. If they were truly pushing for the future, there would be no disc drive in the X1. It would have a huge hard drive and basically they would be putting out a Steam-like service. But instead of that kind of innovation, they have a confusing, aggravating mess.

It is pretty much a digital download console, theres really no difference once the game gets on the X1 HD, either downloaded or from a BR disc, it's your game to play, plus a digital copy is saved in the cloud for you to do all this sharing and gaming on the go stuff, you could throw the disc away if you wanted to.

Some people with slower internet will probably want to get the disc version instead of waiting so long for a download to finish, plus a disc could also be traded in.

I really think MS will come out with a slimmer X1 without the optical drive at some point, people will be more ready for it in a few years.
Keep the other model on the market for people that want Blu-Ray movie playback.

I still don't get the 10 family thing. I hope its like this, 1 person buys the game 10 people can play it at some point. Think of the savings.

PS4 has little to no competition.

Yeah, apparently you download the game and any DLC from MS if your family member has shared it out to you. Pretty cool

Says, he later found out that Larry was slight mistaken, it is 2 people at the same time. But when 2 people at the same time its for singleplayer only. Also the other 8 people are not locked out from playing other games in the shared library. DLC is also shared.
"We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that (developers) want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is, what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?"

When discussing DRM and Microsoft I think this is a good article to read. Author Cory Doctorow was invited to Microsoft to speak about why they shouldn't include any DRM at all in future products. His argument was based on the cycle of technology and how businesses that fail to think ahead rely on technologies like DRM. http://craphound.com/msftdrm.txt

So if planned correctly among friends Xbox games will now feature 1/10th the sales?

PS4 has little to no competition.

When I think of Xbox One I think of the NSA, I'm no criminal but not everything I do behind closed doors is something I want some monitoring tool to be aware of, that is uploaded to "the cloud".

Microsoft make bullshit excuses as to why I must have a camera and mic array connected to my living room that needs to "listen for" particular commands relative to my "entertainment system" that must be "always on".

Why I must be connected to the internet at least once every 24 hours...

Yet whilst all their "answers" are not direct nor are they convincing.

When I question these practices which is very different than how Microsoft used to be only 6-8 years ago (regarding their Xbox division) am I really meant to believe that there's something wrong with the way I think?

Does all this BS make sense to everybody else? Does there seem to be something more sinister going on? It certainly is not a consumer friendly device, smells like a spy device that also let's you watch TV whilst someone can watch you!

Oh yeah, it plays games too!

I'm definitely off the boat with Major Nelson. I used to like the guy, but it's clear he's more on the side of the suits than with the gamers. Kinda sad to see that happen as I thought better of him.

He explained that and apologized for that already. Moving on. It's the info that Nelson hid from, and tried to use the word "flexibility" to cloud over everything. Or the "Are you a developer?" "Are you a lawyer?" kinda crap. Maybe HE needs a class on professionalism too eh? smh

Joe was too soft on him. Expected answers from Major Nelson - I kind of feel sorry for the guy, he's been in the firing line all E3.
