I always get a 2yr warranty with Gamestop where you bring it in and swap it out for another one. Came in handy in the beginning of this gen.

Well going by PS3 pretty much all phats had problems, even into the last 2009 models (80GB and 160GB). So really you're best bet will probably be waiting for the revision otherwise definitely get an extended warranty.

This. It's a very wise investment to get an extended warranty because launch units will have defects. I had two launch 60GB units succumb to the dreaded YLOD.

To OP I would just get the extended warranty since that is the best way to go

My 60gb 360 is 4 1/2 years old and still working. I know that wasn't launch, but I think there were still a lot of problems with that sku... anyway, what I'm getting at is.... it might just be luck of the draw.

Xbone is the only one rumored with overheating issues so far. Could still happen on PS4 but SONY does make good hardware.
I'm more worried about the BR lens burning out.

Oh MS. There is absolutely no way the One could live through an RRoD situation. I expected MS to do everything to make sure the One was as solid as possible from launch.

Neogaf. The claim is the 5billion transistor chip on the Xbone is too complex.

On the other hand; X1 got a big ass fan, unlike 360 that had small fans, which is why it took longer to cool down and is why it sounded like a vacuum cleaner.

All consoles will experience launch problems, the same as all electronics when they are first released. There is a big difference though between an acceptable failure rate and real launch problems such as the RROD fiasco.

I would recommend waiting to buy one at a local shop on launch day in a local store if you absolutely must get it on launch and make a extended warranty on it judging by the 1st generation of consoles of current gen. Its also much easier to go and have a look at it if theres a problem they will usually send it to Sony themselves or replace it. My ps3 slim never had a issue so far though and my 3 year warranty ran out this April

Nice so they had developed a system that is slower and hotter than their competitions.....

With Xbones rumored overheating issues I'd be more worried about that console. But I always get an extended warranty on new hardware anyway.

    launch problems

Anybody try the SquareTrade warranty on Amazon? Seems like a decent deal for $35 for two years.
