Xbox One: Headset Sold Separately - Not Included in $499 Package

    http://n4g.com/news/1283263/xbox-one...in-499-package

For 429 I'd want a headset. No way will Kinect suffice for a proper headset especially since the new ones are proprietary.

Whilst it's not the end of the world it's backward thinking...

Microsoft has taken a turn and it's very different from the Microsoft of 2005-2006 that is for sure.

RIP J Allard, even though you're not dead, the Xbox Brand has died in the hearts of many.

If the headset is the same tech as last gen, I don't understand why they don't include one. How much a 360 headset costs to make? $1-2?

Have they become too greedy? or is it that their target market are not people that use headsets anymore?

So the surround sound feeds back through Kinect?

    +1 darwin award for you.

For the rest of us that aren't blinded by Microsofts gimmicks, headsets are still the way to go. The PS4 one looks good to get started with and I really like the sennheiser ones for serious gaming.

One good thing about the Kinect 2.0's mic is it's massive, you know Microsoft wanted it to hear you from other rooms of your home with that design, must be an NSA thing, but getting sound from a TV and relying on the Kinect 2.0 mic kinda sounds weird.

Actually the headsets you got with the 360 (and the crap earbud one everyone will be getting with the PS4) mean you end up paying for something most of us change for something better. I'd rather it wasn't in the SKU price from the start as I'm unlikely to use it anyway as I'll opt for something better.

That depends on the needs. I have bought both old and slim Sony's bluetooth headsets and I always liked more the free headset included with the 360.
For the occasional use I want it, the fact that I didn't need to charge it every time I wanted to use it, was very important.
Same goes for the keypads. I just don't want a separate battery for every function.

Yup, I guess for those who only use them occasionally then fair enough.

I'd say they should be including a basic headset like they do in the 360 box.
