DFC: "The entire future of the Xbox business is in question"

More bad news, it never seems to end.

Interactive entertainment research firm DFC has delivered a scathing verdict of Xbox One’s market chances in the wake of last weeks’ incredible events at E3.

In fact, it even goes as far as to question whether the scope of Xbox One’s PR failure to date could jeopardise Microsoft’s entire games operation.

DFC’s Forecasts for the Video Games Market report says that “Microsoft's overall strategy for entertainment devices is deeply flawed”.

In turn it has stated that it is likely to raise its PS4 sales forecasts and on turn “further lower” its Xbox One predictions in its upcoming August market update.

“So far this has not had a major negative impact on the Xbox business but that is likely to change with the Xbox One launch,” DFC’s David Cole stated. “Right now the entire future of Microsoft's consumer entertainment business is in question and that is likely to have a major impact on the game industry.”

MS are probably the only ones that dont see this. At the start of this generation i flat out said that people were not going to rush and get the ps3 because of price, i am hardcore and even I could justify it.

This generation i dont see MS having a console that flies out of the gates, not with their DRM, not with their stance on used games and game sharing, not on how you can activate games and all that combined with their price point. Something's gotta give.

Xbox one is like Microsofts PSP GO. The time is just not right.

Yep, and MS is in complete denial.

They're banking on the average consumer not knowing/caring about the details of the DRM. In fact, they said this publicly:

"I think it's fair to say there's a segment of consumers at this show in particular who really pay attention, who are very passionate about all aspects of gaming, and that we listen to closely. In a broader set of community, people don't pay attention to a lot of the details. We've seen it in the research, we've seen it in a lot of the data points."

They might be right. We'll see. It depends how vocal the mainstream press is. They've spoken up against the DRM policies, but will they continue to do so?

Not just XB1, but also denial with Windows 8 (no start menu/start button/boot to desktop), Windows RT (expensive, impractical, a confused OS, abandoned), Games For Windows Live service (on life support).

I'm sure MS will be ok. It's not like they're gonna go bankrupt any time soon.

ITs exactly that type of thinking makes it happen.

It is hard to see Microsoft not having a game console

Only time will tell what will happen

    Lol

It's like the PS3 launch all over again o_O. Except we were getting an $800+ console for $600 from Sony with a bluray player. Microsoft has a lot of work to do to convince people that this thing is worth it, especially over the PS4
