    Need For Speed dev: PS4 and Xbox One are 'going to be pretty much the same'.....

    Need For Speed: Rivals' creative director Craig Sullivan believes that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will deliver "pretty much the same" visual experience, telling VideoGamer.com that it's difficult to determine whether one is more powerful than the other until "you're seeing the same game running on both systems".


    "To be honest, I think they're going to be pretty much the same," said Sullivan, when asked whether the differences between Xbox One and PS4's specs will lead to one offering more advanced visuals than the other. "Nobody's played the same game on finished hardware yet, so you can't make a comparison.


    "We will see," he continued. "I think it's all down to how the development teams use those systems. It's not necessarily about horsepower, it's about the game experience you want to create and how you best those systems. We will push them as far as we possibly can, but until you're seeing the same game running on both systems, who's to say?"


    Sullivan is currently leading development at Ghost Games on Need For Speed: Rivals, the first next-gen Need For Speed and the first game in the series to be built using Frostbite 3.

    "We're going into a new generation of hardware... We'd be crazy not to harness the power of that stuff," he continues. "The game looks amazing. I think it's by far the best looking Need For Speed game ever. The cars look amazing."


    Frostbite 3 allows Ghost's creative team to "get to really high quality stuff... way, way quicker," Sullivan adds. "Plus, Ghost is in Sweden. There's a lot of people working there from DICE, we're in the same country as DICE where Frostbite is made, so it's the natural thing to do, to use Frostbite 3."

    I think they're going to be pretty much the same.
    This seems pretty imprecise to me... I mean... When I read this I imagine somsone speaking that knows nothing about hardware but has only seen some gameplay footage.

    I think this will probably be the norm for most of the Next gen multi-plat games.

    I guess that's why MS is scared to release more info on their gpu They're weaker and cost 100 more #dealwithit.

    There doesn't seem to be much of a reason to get XB1. Sony will lead the console wars again in the coming gen.

    I think it was shown on PS4 at their EA conference, so might be the lead platform?

    As a multiplatform dev/pub, I would certainly be telling the gaming populace that our games are the same across platforms.

    YouŽll be hearing this from every multiplat dev. They canŽt risk saying one version is better then the other. They will be vauge even when asked about the PC version if asked....

    MS never says DDR3 RAM either. Its always just 8GB of RAM period. lol

    They're avoiding it...it's clear from their wordings.

    We shall see when developers are fully taking advantage of both consoles. We already knew that it's possible to see a varied difference in 3rd party and what they say is correct but looking at one game isn't going to tell much.

    This seems pretty obvious. Call of Duty 3 looks identical on the 360 and PS3 despite the power disparity, and the next generation like be the same as well.

    that is far from the truth. yes, it is possible to see identical games on both platforms, especially with multiplats, especially in the beginning of the generation.

    you can have a game that needs a certain amount of power and on the One, it could be 50%, on the PS4 it could be 30% (for example purpose...honestly there's going to be a bigger difference here) and you could make a conclusion that they're about the same in power because both versions look identical...this is essentially what the dev is playing with but do not want to tell the whole story due to diplomatic reasons.

    an extreme example to put things in perspective is that you can have pong run at 60fps on both SNES and the new Titan video card and conclude that they're both similar in power.

    this game would easily go within the theoretical that is given by both hardware.

    Explain. He's not wrong, yes he's not talking about the additional reasons why there weren't much difference last generation and why multiplats actually looked worse most of the time but he's not wrong about what he's saying.

    What do you have that is more logical?

    RSX was inferior to the Xenos in many ways.

    It had performance pitfalls in many places where Xenos did just fine, missed couple of compressed texture formats and frame buffer formats. (BC1 BC5, 10bit fp etc.)

    In general games use usually SPUs for things that Xenos does on x360, and result is often comparable.

    In actual topic, NFS and other multi-platform games will most likely look very similar on both platforms.
    CPUs are pretty much identical and highs/lows on GPUs will be close enough for developers to make games very similar.
    This especially as both machines have GPU based on GCN architecture.
