Microsoft's cloud computing 'vision' for Xbox One remains unchanged

Glad to see that the plans for cloud usage will still be there.

Though Microsoft has changed its stance on the digital rights management-based requirements for the Xbox One, the company remains committed to cloud computing.

"Our vision around Xbox One and what you can do because of the power of both the architecture of the console, and also the cloud and the Xbox Live service, remains unchanged," Xbox Chief Product Officer Marc Whitten told Joystiq.

When asked why Microsoft would not simply offer an offline mode akin to the one featured on Steam, Whitten said "that's absolutely" what Microsoft is doing.

Whitten listed a host of examples of how cloud computing still exists as part of the Xbox One plan, noting players will "see great games like Titanfall take advantage of the cloud processing power" as well as have the ability to get games from the online marketplace and use them on any console.

"We're going to continue to really invest in how those experiences work," Whitten added.

During E3 2013, Fairfax "Mackey" McCandlish, lead designer on the always-online Titanfall, told Joystiq that cloud computing on the Xbox One allows Respawn to "spin off dedicated servers" whenever it wants. "Instead of having everything prepared ahead of time, or misallocate different areas, or have some places be too slow or too much, we can just say 'cloud, find us the right number of computers,'" he added.

Great news for sure. I love the cloud aspect of the Xbox One and how it is native to the system. Great news continues all around.

    I have a question:
If I have slow internet connection (the only one available in my area unfortunately) will I be able to fully take advantage of the cloud computing?

Requires 1.5mb speed for the cloud computing.

Probably not. You just may have to settle for PS4 .

I'd assume that if it was at least 1.5 Mbps down, then it should be fine. (1.5 was the minimum requirement with the old drm policies).

Yea, i guess that's true. MS did mention that you didn't need to have fast internet to get benefits from the cloud.

Out of my league. But I'm very curious to see side-by-side comparisons of cloud vs not cloud of the same game.

And hopefully not Uncharted. Something bigger, better and jaw-dropping. Like they did with The Last of Us. Ok I know it's slightly a different team but something new would be great.

You do nto have 1.5mega bit per second or about 180KB second download speed?
    Sucks.

Some people using cellular internet don't live in an area with a good backbone to the towers. When I was using my Alltel 3g with a wireless router, we were getting between 500Kb/s to 1Mb/s... I was only about 3 miles from the tower, and only about 200 people in that rural area.

I imagine upload speed shouldn't be much of an issue, if i had to guess, 384k-512k should suffice for basic functionality.

Though I don't see how anybody could have a decent online gaming experience with a connection that slow these days.

This is pretty much the main reason why I'd like an XB1. Though it is a bit sad I want to pay 500 just to play CoD with dedicated servers. lol

After years upon years of P2P it's going to be money oh so well spent.

Nope, I never reached 1mb/s in download speed. The average is 500 - 700 kbps. I don't have any issues playing online though.
Ok, maybe on Xbox Live and PSN the downloads are a bit faster but I'm sure 1.5 mb/s is not a reality in my home.
I know it sucks, I live in a rural area and there's only one internet provider here. If I tell you the price you're not going to believe me.
