Playstation 4 vs PS3 size comparison

I must say, Sony have done a pretty amazing job at getting it that small, with the kind of spec the PS4 has, and how much heat it must generate, its pretty well sized.

    I am disappointed.

I wanted this console to be far too heavy for my girlfriend to heft.

I think they may be going for a similar approach to the original Xbox. Make it big and striking like a $#@!ing beast!

Good size. Worried about heating issues it might experience but they probably have a solution for that.

The last pic should be discarded. The PS4 isnt to scale like the first 2 making it look FAR smaller then it really is. Standing height should be roughly = th the OG 360.
Also the measurements of the 2nd pic throw me off abit since the PS4 isnt not facing the same direction as every other console.

PCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

the PS4 measurements in the 2nd picture are flip flopped since its not facing the same way as the others and appears was maybe measured its while facing left rather then down/forward like all the rest?

Look at the 3rd picture with the fat PS3 and 360 next to the PS4 and XB1.
Shouldn't the PS4 be closer in height to the fat 360 or am i totally missing something here? Look at the bottom of picture 2 with all the varients and tell me picture 3 still looks right to you.
(edit) scratch that.... they got the PS4 facing the wrong way there too so who knows.....

The PS4 is just about the same size as the first PS3 Slim, which is really nice, since that is what I have now and they will look good side-by-side. Sony has their power supplies and heat sinks down to a fine science.

The XBone is bigger than the PS3 Phat, which was ridiculed for months because of how "huge" it was. Then, that mocking suddenly came to a sharp stop when RROD started happening. So, now XBone is bigger than the PS3 Phat to try to prevent another RROD equivalent from happening.

For one it will likely take up a lot less power, don't forget that it's using an APU which lowers the heating issues by quite a lot.

PS4 looks like a Nintendo console, which is nice because that's one thing i've always liked about Nintendo consoles, simple and small.

The best way to compare them would be to compare volumes.
Using the data shown the volumes of each are

    PS4 - 4445 cm³
    PS3 Fat - 9237 cm³
    PS3 Slim - 5466 cm³
    Xbox One - 7217 cm³
    Xbox 360 fat - 6616 cm³
    Xbox 360 slim - 5436 cm³

All rounded to the nearest cubic centimeter. These are of course approximate since some have curves that are not taken into account.

The thing is about as small as the first PS3 Slim. I see Sony has bought themselves some black magic.

well, nothing all that surprising. it has an APU, blu-rays are getting smaller, and then it's designed by the Japanese. not surprised.

I thought the same thing at first, but if you consider that they're just facing them all so that the disc trays are forward, it makes sense...
