Id say next gen hardrives and internet will be on the next level, especially with the technology they discovered this week. But i doubt and hope it wont effect physical copies. By 2020 ssd hdds and 1 terabyte will be nothing for consoles

I'm happy discs and physical media will be around for a longer time. I and other gamers do not have fast speed internet yet. It would take forever for me to download a game.

Well Sony has a stake in physical media. Just like MS wants to wipe that out because they have no stake in it, we all know they had the HD-DVD in spite of Sony's Blu-Ray.

Slow internet isnt the problem. Bandwidth caps are.
You could be playing a game or have your PS4 in sleep/suspend mode while a different game downloads in the background. Also you only need to download a certain portion before you can start playing it.

If digital copy was 20$ cheaper than I wouldn't mind, but I much rather have the hard copy.
I still have my favorite ps1 games to this date(Parasite eve 1&2, Final fantasy 8, Resident evil 1-3, and so on), I can't seem to let go of those games even tho I don't play them.

When you remove the plastic packaging from a new game, and you smell on that,it has a very unique smell,i can't live without that,i need disc based games

And it's fun to collect them as well, indies is ok to download digital, but disc based games will survive at least the upcoming 10 years i think.

The publishers decide their own prices, not Sony. XBL is also overpriced. This is why Xbones former steam like DRM situation (steam is better because it has offline mode) with console prices is the worst combo ever.

However also Microsoft charges you for youtube which is free and netflix for which you've already paid a subscription for... that's daylight robbery.

I doubt their "digital Future" involves cheaper games.
Maths is biased! It keeps telling me the PS4 is 50% more powerful than XboxOne!

In the early days of Steam, Steam didn't either, it was a rip off if anyone outside USA bought a game directly from Steam, Bioshock cost me $65 Dollars which back then was around 35ish yet the retail was 30 max.

It wasnt until 2010 the real heavy discounts and deals started to appear.

But depending on your internet speed, it takes DAYS to download one game. You probably right about bandwidth, but I bet more consumers will buy digital as internet options become better.

I like having options as a consumer. Perhaps one of these days people will actually step out of themselves for two seconds and realize there are tons of different people with different situations going on in their lives that dictate different forms of media use. But $#@! them right? It's all about how you want to play your games and content based on your situation.

I don't really need a water cooler/remote control as of right now.

There's two reasons I love Steam: retail discs boxed with Steam codes and; The Steam Sales.. my god, the sales..

If only Sony could add download codes now ...first step to World Domination

I don't buy MANY games... So this doesn't really matter to me... But hey that's still good. And well I'm really starting to like the whole DOWNLOADING games thing since I do only buy the "Must own" games.

Personally (which doesn't matter to most) I like having the best of both worlds. I don't want to fill up my harddrive with EVERY game I buy. I like to save space for the smaller games, my music, a few movies, demos, and a couple digital only bigger games....but the bigger releases i like to have a hard copy....i don't want to fill up hard drive with them. I mean I have purchased over 100 retail releases and another 60-70 digital games just this gen....that takes up space....and I don't want to switch out harddrives all the time. When I'm done with most...I usually give them to family or friends or kids at church if age appropriate. I liked Sony's approach...give the consumer options....just dictating how your going to do things is fine...but don't be surprised if you alienate people.....and thats what MS did. They have the right to do whatever they want with the console....but consumers have the right to not buy it.....and that was what was happening.

Oh yeah and prices on PSN are terrible if there isn't a PS+ sale. I know Sony isn't controlling the prices because that's the publishers putting them on there but many are just not reasonable. I understand it SHOULD be more expensive....the convienence factor alone for downloading right on the PS is something that is a value added part of the price...but when prices are sometimes $20 or more above avg retail....that isn't helping anyone.

Options (actual options) are good. Sony is good, and unlike some people, are actually aware of the real world issues in the way of going full DD at the moment.

55 PS3 games even at 25GB each (being extremely generous, average is probably around 10-15GB with duplicate data) would be about 1.3 terrabyte.

i can download 200GB+ in one day and my connection is average.

now for casuals, this is a huge problem, but the potential is there with core users.

EDIT: oh it's probably about space lol. yea, that would suck but then again, i have a terrabyte HDD on PC that i bought for $50. likely cheaper now.
