Well now that sucks for the hacker and homebrew community.
PCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

Sounds like a challenge to some hackers. I am of the thought that nothing is unhackable. I'm sure someone could figure out something

Err..the bigger story in that article is that people's steering wheels will not work on the Xbox One

But the move also closes the door to innovation and customization. There’s no doubt that players who have spent hundreds (or perhaps even thousands) of dollars on their peripheral systems like a $600 Fanatec Forza Motorsport Elite steering wheel and or a $350 plug-and-play Foehammer Fightstick S7 will feel the sting knowing that the Xbox One won’t support any of it on top of their old games.
Not good. Not good at all! I wonder if the PS4 would still support PS3 peripherals.

Microsoft cant get out of their own way. All the execs are in for a rude awakening if they keep this up.

The Kinect 2 thing is understandable, but the other third-party peripherals thing doesn't make sense.

I seriously thought the headline was good news. I thought they were getting more involved with the developer community.

I can somewhat understand the licensing fees to Kinect 2.0 but restricting third party peripherals? You'd think they were loosening up after all the fiasco.

Good luck to the people who will thoroughly enjoy the console

I hope they work with Fanatec for a patch for wheels though. I spent serious cash on mine.

Why would they work on a patch with them when they are purposely trying to block them out?

Well it was Microsoft that worked with them to develop the Forza racing wheel.

True but were third party peripherals blocked out on 360 last generation? (other than the obvious exclusion of HDDs)

MS teamed up with Mad Catz and Fanatec for 3rd party official accessories. I don't know or think that MS worked with Logitech at all.

but they weren't blocked out to begin with, were they? I don't remember them blocking out this gen so that's why I'm asking. If that's the case, it wouldn't be the same thing.

I can still see them possibly working with someone as long as they pay license fees. So wouldn't it make sense for that company to license a newer product and not a last-gen one?

I just know that Sony and MS both blocked out some accessories through USB this gen. I know MS blocked Datel controllers and Datel memory units as well.

ok i think i'm missing one part. as long as it's licensed, it's fine...i'm guessing they're supposed to be licensed anyway so this isn't more restrictive than the PS. I don't know much about it but I'm guessing.

I don't know anything about that stuff. What I do know is that have a Pro Elite USB controller (3rd party) for my PS3. It works flawlessly and feels like my 360 pad.
