Dualshock 4 Controller Glare on TV

This is making the internet rounds right now as the Xbox fanbois are trying to find someone to bash the PS4.

With no option to dim it, or turn it off, looks like this could actually be an issue?

Oh this is a game breaker lol. I don't hold up my controller in an elevated position so it wouldn't affect me but I can see it being a nuisance to those who do.

Wow! Never considered this. I usually play in dimly lit room too! This is pretty disturbing.

What is the link to the video? Is this an actual demo of the reflection or is this made up?

It's the controller/eye demonstration video that came out a few days ago, no it's not made up.

I would guess Sony will implement an option to dim the light or completely shut it off before the PS4 launches.

well....this could annoy me slightly. I say slightly because electrical tape has many uses. Including making sure I don't get annoyed by the light. But I have two LCD HD tvs The screens aren't glaring glass like my friends Plasma tv. This shouldnt be an issue on my tv but I am looking at a plasma for games and movies but Im also looking at a panasonic tv that Ive heard good things about as well. Im curious what kind of tv that is in the photo.

I know that on shu yoshida twitter someone asked if the light could be turned off and he replied no it can not be turned off. This is something I never considered but could be a real problem. I really can't see myself using duct tape on my new ps4. They've got to be aware of this right?

You better be able to turn off or dim. Frankly I don't want to be using duct tape as a 'fix' with my new 350 bit of kit.

At least it could be fixed with a firmware update if it does become an issue.
I believe devs have control over the light currently as they are said to be able to make it flash or change colours (low on health etc) so they may even decide to turn it off altogether if it affects their game in a negative manner.

    Link to vid

Link to full video. Games with dark backgrounds will really show the lights on a tv with glare. My friend plays his games on his plasma it has a glass screen. Not going to be fun for him because he likes to play in the dark.

This video could be misleading. It could be the camera that's making the light show up in this video since it's for that specific purpose. Though I'm sure that if it is a problem, enough people will complain and they're will be a solution. Something like this is rather minor.

I'm sure if this gets enough attention they'll put in an option to turn it off, however in that video you saw that by putting your hand over the light it affects that particular game, so it's tricky for them to work around it because turning it off may reduce a large amount of features for these games.

"Duck" is the original term used for such tape historically because of the use of cotton duck. Oddly enough "Duct" tape isn't even certified to be used on heating ventilation ducting and is not recommended for such use.

Feel free to use Duck Tape.

was this ever an issue with the move? no... because its a non issue... why is this a thing now? to find something to nitpick, thats all.

A lot of people play with the TV higher than the controller actually sits... want to test it out? take your phone and turn it on/unlock it so the screen is glowing (for added effect set brightness to about 50% and download a solid blue image.) hold it at the same level you hold your controller, screen facing the TV... i found that it wasnt noticeable approximately 4ft from direct line of site with the tv, in a completely dark room, set to the same glow as a DS4

does it affect you? > no? > carry on
does it affect you? > yes? > sit further back than 4ft

    OR

raise the tv so its approx. 2.5 ft off the floor. this number is based on if you are sitting directly upright with your hands resting in your lap (does anyone play with their controller higher than that? thats weird)... which for me, from the floor to the top of my knee is about 2.something feet... with that being said... unless you are crazy tall (im 6'3") this shouldnt affect like 90% of you.

im honestly wondering how many people have their TV's set up from their "sitting/playing" position differently than this? (my TV's are in my bedroom on an entertainment center about 4ft high so whether im sitting at the edge of my bed or laying down... the tv is ALWAYS higher than id ever raid a slightly illuminated controller.

Won't be a problem for me. I'm weird with controllers. i actually play with them pointing up at the ceiling. Normally when playing the PS3 my chin sits where the USB connector is.

Odd, i know. I just find it comfortable.

There are a lot of Xbots out there scrambling around to find something they can use to knock the PS4 down with. This just shows you how much trouble they're having to do so.
