Valve's utopian management structure might not be so perfect.

This was an interesting read. I'm a big fan of Valve and how they treat their customers. Valve has been praised in how they run their company, but there seems to be obvious faults and cracks that will hold them back.

Valve are like the Thierry Henry or Madonna of the gaming world,; you won't find a games company who spend more time and effort managing their public image. It is obsessive. I doubt that leaked document a while ago was an accident and it has to go without saying that they're not as squeaky clean, pro-consumer as their fans like to pretend.

I could take it a step further and say that no company is as pro-consumer as they want the PR to show.

    Valve isn't an exception.

Exactly. I find it funny when people think companies actually care about the gamer. Companies will only care about the gamer as long as the gamer is making them money.

Though, they've made Steam and I do love them for that.

yeah, these guys do great things for us, hell sometimes even try to make it look like they "listen".. but in the end, all it comes down to is MONEY. We are money, a resource. That is all.

Of course, money is always the incentive. They still don't have shareholders or investors they have to uphold to. They "almost" can do what they like and the money does come. They haven't done anything anti-consumer to lose trust, even if Steam had a rough start. I'd take this approach any day of the week, even if it's only for public image. They still fought for getting the first L4D DLC free on the 360, it's not something you get from other big companies. PC now also has priced map packs, which horribly segregates the community, it's even worse on consoles without servers. Their updates are still free.

This article however has nothing to do with the consumer.

Redundance OK if there is a cash flow problem. But firing someone when that person simply did their job and di it well is plain wrong.
    USA do things different.
