I've never been able to justify owning two consoles. There's more games than I can afford or finish on one platform, two would be a waste of time and money. I was a PS1 and a PS2 owner before Xbox ever even hit the market, and that pretty much defined my path through PS3 and on to PS4. I'm not a big fan of shooters, I'm not a big fan of paying for online (and I'd be upset with Sony on that one except I was already a PSN+ member for free games), I'm not particularly keen on learning a new controller, especially one designed around first person shooters which is one my least favorite genres. On the one hand I find the tech in kinect fairly impressive, on the other I think it is completely misguided as a gaming control approach. At least at this point in time. I'm not a fan of Move either. Motion controls cannot really match the range of options and ease of use of a controller.

I set a personal rule for myself years ago in regards to a second console, it would have to have at least 10-20 major exclusives that I really wanted to play before I'd consider buying a second platform. It might be on the higher side of that range now since I'd always have to pay for a second subscription service. To date no Xbox or Nintendo platform has managed to offer me enough exclusives I had to play to make it worth the effort.

Microsoft has stepped on their $#@!s this round, and are desperately trying to dig out the hole they have dug. They have no faith in their vision, they have no passion for their vision, they have no commitment to their vision, and I don't see them really regaining it any time during this generation. I'm amazed they are sticking to their guns on kinect so far, I'd not be at all surprised to seem them drop it to regain price parity. They'll throw money at developers in hopes of tricking their die hard fans into taking them serious, but I deeply suspect most of their efforts will be subscription based entertainment services tied to the Windows ecosystem, which ultimately is what the whole Xbox project has always been about. I don't think they have much of chance in this generation, maybe they'll beat Nintendo, but only because the WiiU was an even bigger misstep than Xbone has been. But they don't have any of the advantages they did last round, except perhaps the support of American gamers, they won't launch a year earlier, they won't have a significant price advantage, they won't have an opponent with a significantly harder to develop for platform, they won't have an opponent who is arrogant and oblivious, they won't have a platform what is close to even in power. They barely held on this generation with all those advantages. They will attempt to keep buying exclusives, for the first couple years, but that will trickle off or shift to mostly kinect titles.

Maybe in a couple years they'll have a enough exclusives to change my mind, but the core Xbox franchises have never really interested me. I don't play racing games, I'm not a big FPS fan, and Xbox really isn't a big JRPG platform, and doesn't really have to much in the way of exclusive WRPGs. The entire generation of Xbox360 barely matched the must have out put of Naughty Dog alone on the PS3.

What makes live so great? It has plenty of lag....so lets be honest...its mostly about where your friends are...correct? Well this gen is setting up to have a role reversal with more people gaming and friends included on the PS4 if pre-orders trends keep up and prices remain constant. That would make PSN the place to be would it not? If there is something else special about live please let me know....my encounters with it while playing at my brother in-laws was limited but I saw nothing special about it. In fact for me I saw more lag and way more cheating.

Of course the games looked good.....they were being shown on power gaming rigs with graphic cards that would set you back a grand. The PS4 games were running on PS4 operating systems with half the ram the final build will have....AND even at that the games still looked AMAZING!

I just can't trust MS. The original xbox got no support after the 360 came out. The 360 was rushed and they KNEW it was crap....had all kinds of issues from RROD to scratching disks etc....and they still released it to win market share. Then the XBONE...well we've seen the crap they had in mind for that.....then when they saw it wasn't received well.....stripped it of everything but its bloated $499 price tag and moments notice. They have no direction...no vision..and no morals. We could be here all night listing how $#@!ed up MS moral compass is so I have no confidence in their gaming division. The 360 did a lot right....if they had highlighted that...expanded on that and focused on making the most bad ass powerful gaming console ever....they could have blown Sony out of the water...and sold me on one and perhaps changing my mind about how I perceive their products....but sadly....they did the opposite. Everything terrible about this company finally has crept its way into their gaming division....and instead of the xbox changing the company..the company changed xbox....goes to show a companies corperate culture is very very hard change indeed.

I bought the 1st Xbox after having my PS2 for YEARS to just try it out. Thought Halo was alright and felt Knights of the Old Republic was one of he best games I've ever played. A year and a half into ownership controller started to act up then the unit had a hard time reading disks from time to time. I took a chance and traded it in (luckily it felt like working during testing at GameStop). I left thinking "typical Microsoft, $#@!ty products". Had my PS2 for 6-7 years w no issue.

Next gen PS3 is delayed a year but hate Microsoft so I figure ill hold off and let the dust settle the 1st year. I watch the 360 get destroyed for the RRoD fiasco and say to myself " new gen, same crappy Microsoft products". I wait a year, buy a launch PS3 that lasts 7yrs w no problem and eventually trade it in about a month ago.

So to answer your, "Will I buy a Xbox One?"

Hell No!!! I don't willingly buy any Microsoft product. Crap company w crap products not worth the time and money. And if any one asks, no I'm not a Sony fanboy. I'm a fanboy and loyal of sound innovation and quality products. Just happens Sony builds good stuff in the gaming market.

    Just my $.04

I'd buy Xbox one if the exclusives make it worth it. Love gears of war when I'm hammered, and forza 4 is absolute sex when it comes to car porn

Well, I'm definitely not planning on getting an Xbox One at any point during this gen. My opinion is my own and I think that people that get the Xbox One will have great games and have fun, but here's my own PERSONAL reason this time around:

    1. I feel burned by getting the Xbox 360 as I did over the past year just to play Halo. Really I think it was stupid on my part to spend that kind of money just to play 3-4 games and the only way I justified it was that I could then trade it back in to Game Stop (as I have) to recover at least around half of that money. Still, I hadn't realized that I couldn't even surf the web, use Netflix and other online functions (including watching a UFC fight that XBL advertised as "free" on my console) since I didn't subscribe to XBL Gold. I really think that's kind of a ripoff and it will continue with this next gen. Yes, Sony will begin charging for online multiplayer access but things like Netflix, web browsing and chatting with your friends will still be available even if you don't pay for PSN+. While I do have PSN+ now and will continue to, I think it's better for others and I always have the option if something changes and I can't afford it going forward.

    2. Exclusives- Especially over the past 3 years but consistently throughout the PS3 lifecycle, Sony has had many more exclusives and exclusives I was interested in. It's just been no contest. Sony has ALWAYS been big on this and it's one of the reasons I picked the PS3 from my PS2 even though I'd heard a lot about the 360 at that point. Now, unfortunately, we didn't see very good multi-platform ports early on in the PS3's lifecycle. I had bought in to the tech talk about the Cell processor and how it would actually make up for the weaker GPU once dev's got their arms around it. This was actually even true as I think you can see from things like the Uncharted series and TLoU. That just took way too long unfortunately, and that brings me to my next point.

    3. Technology- You can't argue that the PS4 has the better technical specs at this point. More TFLOPS, higher speed video memory, more compute units and more shaders. Period. Yes MS has done some things with the ESRAM that will help them keep pace a bit more, but the facts are that the PS4 is the superior machine in the strength of it's capabilities, discounting the OS and software. Bottom line- we saw how this played out with the 360 and PS3, at least early on in the generation before SOME developers dedicated themselves to unlocking the PS3's full power. I think we will see similar things this generation and the difference MAY not be relegated to early on in the lifecycle only. It may be persistent throughout the generation. While I may not be able to tell every time if a title is rendering at full 1080p internally or whether it's using 1920x800 internally, those differences may well tally up to games being noticeably superior on the PS4. It may not affect someone's enjoyment of a title on the Xbox One and may not be a HUGE deal at all, but I will take being on the side of those superior specs this time around. I suffered a bit early on with the PS3 and it just wasn't all that fun. Some games were downright almost unplayable compared to their 360 counterparts and I have no desire to repeat that. So again, PS4 for me.

    4. The companies- Yup, that's right, the companies. I've been in IT my whole career and dealt with licensing, etc. Microsoft dominates the business market and not in a good way in my opinion. I've seen them basically force businesses to spend up to millions of dollars that aren't necessary just to upgrade. I've seen basically FORCED upgrades that cost business money. All in all there's business and then there's (in my opinion) dirty business. MS falls on that "dirty" side way too often for me and I'd RATHER not support them if I don't need to. Mind you, if they hands down made the best product in my opinion, of course I'd buy it. In this case, fortunately for me based on the other points above, they don't. So I don't need to support them in order to get myself the best product, in my opinion.

So there's my reasoning. I'm very excited for the start of this next generation, even though Dark Souls II is going to make sure I keep my PS3 up and running for at least about a year (most likely) after it's release- or whenever it finally starts dying as far as other online players goes. The only thing at this point that I wish Sony would change, to make things perfect for me, is to let me either choose a screen name that I can change, or let me change my PSN ID. It's the 21st Century! I know it was my fault for not reading, but being stuck with my real name for a screen name just sucks. PLEASE, Sony!

All you have to decide is what to do with the time give to you....

Probably not any time soon. Mainly due to the fact that I have to pay for both PSN and XBL now.

Probably not anytime soon. Will have to see if it gets any exclusives that interest me aside from K.I.
    I love K.I. but I don't love it enought to spend $600+

I was planning on getting them both day one. The PS4 for me, and the XB1 for my son. That said he's seen all the YouTube video's crapping on the XB1 and no longer wants one.

That said, I'm not totally excluding it from a potential future purchase. Things can change, there can be some exclusives that I really really want to have or more likely my son later decides that he wants to get it for B-day/Xmas.

But at this point, I'd have to say that I have no plans on getting an XB1.

Kinect mandatory = no go. I also don't like the pricepoint considering the hardware.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I'd like to say something in this regard. I'm worried about the Kinect, both the original and this 2.0 version. Microsoft has never been the paragon of having no security issues. Not so worried about the NSA, after all, our email and phone conversations, etc. are already monitored somewhat. I'm worried about "normal" hackers finding a way to bust the system. We've already had cases where schools and other institutions have had the cameras on PC's exploited by perverts and just plain old busy-bodies. I worry that hackers will find a way to do this with the Kinect system and if they do, since it's required, you won't be able to protect yourself until MS releases a fix, etc. That's my worry with Kinect. Being in IT I know some would say that's paranoid, but since it's happened with other technologies that are similar and since it's on a Microsoft platform, I don't think that possibility is worth discounting out of hand.

I'm not sure. I'm still considering if I want to get a 360 at some point. At $200 for a bare bones system is still way too high for me when I only want to play a couple of exclusives. If the 360 gets to the $150 or even lower price I might get it

The One does things in a lot of ways that I just don't like. Everything from needing Kinect to HAVING to install WHOLE games from disk to the HD (Seriously? Why not just make the system 100% digital and just get rid of discs completely. This is some backwards ridiculous bull$#@!. Who wants to sit there and wait for like 20+ gigs to install every time you get a new disc?) just doesn't sit well for me. I would have to wait for years and the thing to be dirt cheap if I were to even think of it. If I got it as a gift though I wouldn't give a $#@!, but I don't see that happening.

I still play PS2 and Wii along with my PS3 and plan on getting a PS4 at some point. For me, that's too many gaming systems to juggle. With just having 3 and an Xperia Play I feel it's too much as it is, and I'm still also considering a Wii U, 3DS, and Vita at some point.

It's like at what point do you sit back and realize your gaming needs are handled considering how much time one has? I dunno, but $#@! can get outta hand quick considering just how many systems are available.

Nope, don't see the point if PS4 is going to own 70+% of the market.

Thanks for the insight. Didn't think about normal hackers getting into the system. That def can be problematic.

I'll get the Xbox One first. I has the better exclusives going out of the gate this time.
