Do you think Gaikai will be all that it says it will be? Or will it disappoint?

Does anyone have any knowledge about Gaikai in general?
Do you think it will stream The Last of Us with the same quality and speed as we know it on PS3?
Will the PS Vita run games nicely?
Or will it have more problems then its worth?
What are your thoughts and opinions?

ITs a video stream so the quality all depends on the speed of your internet.

Onlive is similar ting yet the quality is in my opinion very bad. Teh video stream is max 720p and low quality, it only ever used around 7Mbit of my internet bandwidth.

    Edit
Just found out Onive increased the quality

    Of course.
I'm mostly curious if it will run smoothly on an average connection?
Or if you will need a top of the line connection just to get acceptable quality out of streaming games?

Onlive currently requires a 5Mbit connection minimum but it looks $#@!.
My guess is something similar for Gaikai.

Do the codec encode rates relate to internet bandwidth? Say the video is encoded at 17Mbits that mean it will take that much to stream?

I cant see myself using Gaikai streaming for anything but instant demos.

Saints row had a lot of screen tearing. I played through its opening. Crysis 2 ran pretty good from the little I played of it. It didn't look any better than the console versions from what I could tell.

I think Sony definitely has some issues to work out with Gaikai.

Well that's 1/2 of the equation. While it most definitely requires a high speed internet, it also requires low latency connection, having one doesn't guaranty the other by any means.

It's been hit or miss and mostly miss by those using both Gaikai and OnLive. Personally I wouldn't bet on it especially when dealing with games in which you expect the highest quality video.

As broadband continues to improve in transfer speed over time, it hasn't done a lot to improve upon latency issues over the past decade or so.

I think it'll be fine, but its not going to catch on like Sony wants. For one, its probably not going to be free. I'm guessing it'll be a $40 change ontop of the $50 per year for PS+. I'm think a lot of people will just hang onto their PS3's and buy the PS3 games for a hell of a lot cheaper than the Gaikai subscription cost will be.
One breath in this moment. We'll stay till were chosen and though it all.

Instead of software emulation on a server, why not software emulation done directly on the console? Game streaming is just very poor right now.

Based on other similar types of services and how the virtual desktop/server technologies are developing at this point I think that it's very likely that Gaikai will perform SURPRISINGLY well for most people. Folk will need a solid and mid-range to fast internet connection for it to be really reliable but I don't see why it wouldn't work for at least a good portion of the library. I'm excited to see it at any rate. Of course, I expect people to really kick up a fuss when it's revealed to be a subscription type service and not completely free, but I think that's reasonable and I'll still use it if specific titles I want are supported.

I think Gakai and OnLive have a great deal of promise. I'm just not sure how long it will take them to realize it.

Internet speeds get faster every year, and the faster they get the more remote processing type solutions we'll see, and the more effective they'll get. You need a far less capable dumb client than what you need to have fully independent processing. Imagine this kind of concept with something like Google Glass, all you need at the user end is a minimal piece of tech and a decent internet connection... I suspect Sony will try to put Gakai on everything they can, which is when the Vita will really come into its own.

I played NFS: The Runs on Gaikai. There was some latency but I won the race.

I only care about the ideal that it proposed of full backwards compatibility.

I don't know how the phuck they could possibly achieve that.

I have no real hope or expectations for the service.

If I could play a PS3 level game before the buyout, before the intergration and optimisation into Sony's ecosystem etc, I imagine it will run A LOT better now. Also, I think PS2 and PSX games will be a piece of piss for Gaikai.

Depends on how much work Sony will put into Gaikai. For me a huge library with 10.000+ PS1,PS2,PS3, PSP and PSN games all available through Gaika would be a massive selling point. When the latency works fine (and i think it will) Gaikai could be a hit. But if Sony drops the ball and release Gaikai only with 100 random titles with no big library updates in years and games are unplayable cuz of bad ping then yeah Gaikai is kinda useless.

I highly doubt that will happen considering they spent 380 million dollars to acquire it.

I've only ever had problems with streaming services. My internet just isn't fast enough. Onlive lagged really bad when I used it guessing this is going to be the same for me.

The Jaguar CPU of Ps4 simply isn't up to the task of emulating the code of the Cell processor. Jaguar alone only has half the floating point performance.
