Forza 5 to be unplayable until you download a content pack

    http://www.geek.com/games/forza-5-wi...-pack-1562408/

Even though Microsoft has reversed its decision to make the Xbox One an always-connected console, that doesn’t mean the requirement has disappeared completely. A case in point is Forza 5, which developer Turn 10 has confirmed you will need an Internet connection for in order to make the game initially playable.
What Turn 10 has done is decided to continue work on the content for the game as long as possible. That means the disc that ships with Forza 5 on won’t contain a good chunk of the content required for the game to be playable. So, anyone picking up Forza 5 on release will be forced to connect to the Internet in order for a mandatory content pack to be downloaded.

The content pack will be free, but until you get it the game won’t be playable. Depending on just how big the download is, it could make for a frustrating launch day as gamers sit and wait for gigabytes of data to download and install on their Xbox One. However, there is a chance part of the download will happen in the background so as not to block play.
After the content is acquired, there is no further need for an Internet connection in order to play the game.
However, Turn 10 is encouraging you to leave the Xbox One connected as the Drivatars feature relies on it and just won’t function otherwise.
Day one patches for games are becoming more common, but that doesn’t make them desirable. When I purchase a game I want to take it home, insert the disc, and start playing. Waiting for content to download is just frustrating, and if developers intend on doing this then really it needs to be a background task while you play.
A ghost from pre-DRM removal times.

    Indeed.

With having to connect to get the Day 1 Xbone patch I cant see it being a big problem as those with out internet will not be buying an Xbone for a while because of the patch needed. Maybe during second Xbone run they will come with patch on them so then this could be a problem.

While undesirable, I can understand why this would happen. A game that's been in development with the idea of launching on a console that is always online, would only naturally be geared towards using that feature. The DRM reversal of the Xbone would be a massive hit to them, and possibly one that wouldn't be completely realistic with their vision (which already began development). That said, it still sucks, and it will likely hurt them, but I can at least understand why they have chosen to do this. In the end, the whole argument will boil down to the old "How many gamers actually don't have internet" type of debate, which I'm sure everyone is sick of by now.

XBO already has a need to internet on its first run, isn't it? So this is going to be a problem for the consumers, then the console itself will.

So did Ms force them to release this game for launch or something because it sounds like it's not finished

You need to reread the article again.

Smh. MS is doing nothing but testing the waters for the return of Drm. They're so full of it.

Problem #1 - Needing to be connected online for the initial xbone set up. Easy solution: Ship the games with this update on the disc.

Problem #2 - Selling an incomplete game to those with internet connection. Easy solution: Delay its launch. Forza is not going to make or break the xbone from selling out at launch.

I can understand online updates once the games are gold and being mass produced but there's no excuse to know that both of these are pre-launch problems and MS pretends that nothing can be done about them other than connecting online.

Considering that there are 48 million xbox 360 owners always online, i think this will only be a big deal to the Sony fans...

so the nearly 50 million 360 consoles connected are obviously fine, but the nearly 20-30 million others that aren't connected to xbox live wont have an issue unless they also own a ps3? :P logic how?

I'm sure sony will gladly take those 30million xbox gamers that doesn't have the internet.

So you have a flat screen TV, and you buy a 500 dollar console.
    But you have no internet?
Doesn't really add up to me.

I don't think the X1 supports SDTV either, and only comes with a HDMI output for connection to a TV or monitor.

It's time to get updated if your offline and have an old style TV.

I am guessing that 99% of the 80 million Xbox 360 owners all have internet. Just that only have of them elected to sign up for Xbox Live.

gives me more excuse to never BUY an XB-ONE at all... It makes no sense,

so this means all Games and not just TURN 10 GAMES willl carry this option

If so then this will be a massive mistake... We need to know if other games for this console, all carry this option

So, Silver&black_Attack you are telling people that if they don't have internet, then they don't have the right to have any other expensive electronic that can use internet but don't require it?

The rarity called common sense has entered the forum. Thank You. But your new fangled common sense might scare people on this here these parts.

MS also said $#@! you with the original xbox requiring broadband instead of dial-up for online play back in 2002, over a $#@!ing decade ago. So happy they did that. But let me guess, we should regress and somehow let the dial-up people who very much exist play online too after all we have to coddle them all
    .
    .
    .
    .
    no, $#@! em.

    Adapt or be left.

The scary part of it all is if the internet and social sites were as prevalent back then in 2002 as they are now the same $#@! would have happened to xbox live like the xbox one. They would actually be crying about xbox live requiring broadband, MS would have regressed.

We would have remained in a stoic state.

    Edit:
Just in case I wasn't clear.

Yes $#@! em, $#@! em all.

I'm sure that internet did not grow that much in the last 10 years just because xbox god a mandatory broadband connection.

I bet that you can play the game w/o internet connection, day one, etc. The same with the Xbox One day one required download lol.

Will you be able to use all the features that the updates will have? Of course not, unless you download them.

I can't wait to prove it.

People that have modern stuff usually have some kind of Internet service, at least a tethering phone if nothing else.
Especially people interested in playing video games.

Think about all the stuff that comes with being online theses days.
Patches, DLC, multi player, dashboard updates, media streaming, demos and DD games.

Some of the best games at E3 require a connection to play.
TitanFall, The Division and Destiny just to name a few.

If your an offline gamer that refuses to hook up, your limiting yourself to a smaller experience with these new consoles.

That is what they currently do with the 360, so I see no reason why they wouldn't do that with the XB1.
