Blu-ray movies OK, games, not so

Odd problem with my ps3. At first I was getting freezing issues with games so i figured I'd change my HDD (old one was getting full anyway) updated everything, cleaned out my vents, replaced thermal paste, cleaned optics... The work!!!

Put a game in (clean, not scratched, not warped) gets stuck on loading screen. Put in another one in same condition, asks me to do update KZ3 1.12, 1.15? ) updates fine then screen stays black (Blu-ray drive still spinning). Pull out game, ps3 restarts. Enter safe mode, try pretty much every option (restore file system/data base, reset ti factory defaults etc..) Still nothing.

The odd part is, Blu-ray movies and digital games work great.

Any solution/possible fix would be welcome.

    Try this:

Ok, for anyone who has had the same or similar problem, here is the solution.

The fault must have had something to do with the resolution. There was nothing wrong with the Disk Drive

All I did was go to Settings (on the XMB) -> Display settings -> Video Output Settings.

I seleted HDMI -> custom and then only checked the highest and lowest posible res that my tv supports and missed out all the ones in the middle. so for example. if your TV runs 1080i you have the option to tick (or untick) 576p, 720p, 1080i. 576p had to be ticked, so I unticked 720p because it was the lower than my TVs max res (1080i).

My PS3 will play games fine but one or two Blu-ray movies, she won't play.

    How old is the PS3?

It sounds like it could be the laser. Maybe get it checked?

My laser is most likely dying. I ran a cleaning disk and the games started working again, but they are still taking forever to load.

I wasn't having problems with my games freezing but I did have problems with blu rays not working. One thing that I found solved the problem was using internet connection while playing blu ray. Turned it off and fixed it. Haven't had any issues since. But my internet is $#@! so may not be your problem. Worth a shot. I could barely get any movies to play. Just select titles played.

Why would the video resolution have anything to do with reading a blu ray game?

IDK i saw some fix that people were having the same problem and there was something dealing with some kind of option that you would think would be minuscule but a lot of people said it fixed their problem. It was in the blu ray settings. I'll see if I can find it.

Ask the people who had the problem and used this to solve it. 'shrugs'

That's what I found. Many people in that forum said it fixed it.
