Xbox One games can also be played during disc installation

    Great news.

Xbox One games can be played while you’re installing them from your disc, Microsoft has confirmed.

It follows news that Xbox One titles can be played while they’re being downloaded. Microsoft has now confirmed to IGN that the same is true for disc-based titles.
A rep told the site, “Whether you are downloading a game digitally or from a disc, the game will be downloaded in segments. Once the required data –a fraction of the entire game – is on the hard drive, you can start playing while the rest of the title finishes downloading in the background.”
Playing during downloads and installation seems to be a common theme for both Xbox One and PS4, it’ll surely help those of us who are more impatient. Like me.http://www.vg247.com/2013/07/19/xbox...-installation/

Sounds good. Really glad both consoles have this feature, sounds very helpful. I'll start to resent waiting for games on Steam to download now

I assumed once they dropped DRM that you wouldn't have to install that it would be optional. So how are they going to track of the game is installed now without a required connection? No way they are just going to let you install the game and give it to your buddy and he can do the same thing. Good for customers bad for MS. I wonder how they will track this now. Kind of figured they would have dropped the install with the no DRM. I guess it would have taken too long to rework the system to not allow installs.

Maybe they will have codes like PC does. I'm mostly interested if this is optional or required. That will start to eat up hard drive quick.

Hopefully we have the option to install full disc as it will save the laser burning out (Playstations are bad for this)

They will probably do like they do now on the Xbox 360. Install game to HDD, and keep disk in drive. Microsoft said install is required, and will offer faster performance than the BD drive offers.

When you have 99 PS2 discs and 63 PS3 games I love playing random stuff on the fly, if the laser has to suffer like my PS3 one did its ok. Blu-Ray movies also kill it, 3+ hours of straight reading.

i was curious as to why they hadn't talked about something like this. seems like a trend with Steam already on the bandwagon.

We knew about the games installing and disc not being needed(drm) but since the reversal on drm, I'm not sure they mentioned how it works.

Their system was designed around installing games to the system. Removing the DRM requirement wouldn't have changed that unless they were to start over.

They said that disk based games installed to the HDD will now require the disk be in the drive to play.
PCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....
