Forza Motorsport 5 doesn't require a day one update to play after all

But downloadable cars and tracks are required to finish the game's career mode, Turn 10 explains.

Forza Motorsport 5 will not require players to download a day one update before they can play the game after all, Turn 10 boss Dan Greenawalt has said, despite appearing to state otherwise earlier this week.
Clarifying his comments to IGN, Greenawalt explained that, though the player will be required to connect to the internet at least once in order to download cars and tracks required to finish the game's career mode, being forced to connect before you play is "not the plan".
"In the beginning of the game, the player will be racing against Drivatars that are contained on the disc and were trained by the [Turn 10 development] team," Greenawalt said.
"While playing, the player will be asked to connect to [Xbox] LIVE in order to download a completely fresh set of player-created Drivatar opponents it's not a lot of data, but the download contains enough Drivatars to cover all difficulty settings. Connecting will also download new content but the vast majority of the launch content is contained on the disc."
The download contains "additional cars and tracks", Greenawalt says, and can be downloaded in the background.
"The player won't be blocked from playing the game" if they choose not to connect to Xbox LIVE, he continues, "but deeper areas in the career mode were designed to utilize these additional cars and tracks."
Greenawalt adds: "This is similar to what we did on Forza Motorsports in the last generation as well shipping both free and premium content at launch. In some ways it's similar to the Disc 2 content in FM4 as well. However, this time (unlike DLC tracks in previous Forza's) deeper progression in the career mode was designed to fully integrate this launch downloadable content."http://www.videogamer.com/xboxone/fo...after_all.html

OK.... So the game doesn't require day 1 online connection to play, just requires an internet connection to finish....

Yeah... Don't sell partly finished games and requiring online access so you can finish it later..

PCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

So you still only get part of the game for 60 bucks but then still have to download the rest of it to finish the career. Pathetic.

Because they wanna start printing the disks to get ready for launch....
Even tho the game isn't finished yet.... XD

"Drivatars"... Or whatever, I'll give them that you connect online to later get updated drivatars, but does that really need to be a requirement?

But why the hell should you have to go online to download cars and tracks required to complete the single player career mode except if they weren't finished yet when the game supposedly went gold o_O?

If its not finished yet MS, DON'T SELL IT YET.

it's nice to know... But still a failure that you need the internet to finish the game

    there are people that don't.

but more importantly, people feel that their freedoms are being taken with these restrictions.

Yep, that's the most important part. Online requirements for single player games.... it's trash.

But surely it boils down to incomplete games being pressed to disk?

Then they should finish the game before pressing it to disc. Otherwise, customers are being penalized, and revenue will be lost.

How is this that much different from buying a game nowadays, which as soon as you boot it up requires a bloody great patch? Granted the single player would still operate and the patch wouldn't be prompted if the console was off-line, but you know what I mean, developers/publishers seem to have been releasing "unfinished" products for ages now based upon the, what has become the norm, day one patches.

But I agree with you, its $#@!.

Yeah, generally speaking, I think all games should be finished before released. If there is a bug found after pressing, and they issue a patch for it, I can understand that. However, day one patches for actual things that were just not able to put into the game in order to reach a deadline. Pretty piss poor.
