Guess I'll ask the one question nobody else bothered to: What exactly do you plan on using this machine for?

That's the spirit. Like i said, let the GPU go for a while if costs become a factor, built a rock solid base.

Also, you need to cool the CPU down and i'm sure you want a fairly quiet machine.
We typically throw A TON OF COPPER at the cpu to do that!

I have one of these on each of my 2 i7 beasts (i7 970 and i7 3930K, i'm not rich, but, i used to be the territory manager for Intel retail programs in my area of the US, so I got those bad boys on their Retail Edge deals in summertime cheap WITH mobo for like $200-300 each ). I have the older version of this cooler on my OOLD and still running at 3.2ghz (Normally a 2.4ghz) Core 2 Quad Q6600revb. That chip has never ran hot in 5 years.

    And you'll want this.
Arctic Silver Arctic Silver 5 Compound (3.5g) $12.00 Buy Arctic Silver Arctic Silver 5 Compound (3.5g)

Your store doesn't seem to carry my fav heat sink, there are others that would do, but, man, that huuuuuuge thing of copper, i rarely hear the fan tune up under full load, and I have 6 core 12 thread processors!

Honestly, my best advice has been the Power Supply!!!! Nobody hates the BitFenix Prodigy, they just wish often that there were 5 more milimeters depth in that PSU cage! I swear that case is selling more mini-ITX motherboards around the world than anything, BitFenix should be rich by now.

Also, if you buy an SSD or 2.5in HDD, they mount on THE RIGHT SIDE DOOR! You won't need bracket adapters.

The case is damn sexy. so damn sexy.
I can always search around for better heat sink paste.

    I can spend a little over $200 a week
This week - case and board
Next week - power supply and BR drive
    Week after - CPU
    Week after - GPU
    So on,

Would love to have all the pieces done by the end of September, we will see no rush

Edit: I purchased the wrong mother board! Argh. This board is for Haswell and not Ivy-Bridge I sent the eBay seller a note so I will see how that goes.

I wouldn't bother with a Blu Ray drive at all. Or at least leave it to very last, your system will work without it and then you can decide if you really do need one.

I have my DVD in my machine but its not plugged in. The way my PSU is the power cords will not reach my hard drives if I have 1 plugged into my DVD drive.
I rarely use it anyway only if I fancy a game of Halo or Max Payne 2 basically old games I bought years ago that were not on steam at that time.

I buy a lot of media, so there will definitely be a drive in there.

Since I bought the wrong model board I will have to wait till moring to see if the seller cancels the sale or what since there is a $12 price difference.
Lets hope this is my first and last stuff up :P

we all stuff up. Even on my new build i bought 3 PWM fans and my fan controller doesn't support them so i had to buy some 4pin to 3pin connectors.

4pin fans are backwards compatible with 3 pin fans however my fan controllers male fittings wouldn't let a female 4 pin adapter fit into it so i had to buy some 3 pin fan extensions and then do it that way.

Did you buy a CPU yet? Not a huge gap in price on Ivy Bridge vs Haswell, and you won't be overclocking anyway. Haswell is faster per clockcycle.
    See this for example.
    http://www.extremetech.com/computing...-pc-enthusiast

It's up to you. I thought you were getting the cheaper asrock on the ddcomputing site and using that cheaper board to balance out the cost of the haswell chip over the cost of the more expensive ivy bridge mobo and cheaper ivy bridge chip.

My only fear with Haswell is heat, sure I won't be over clocking but in general use I want it atleast somewhat efficient.

I could live with a Haswell build, yes.

The seller replied and said he will check with the warehouse or something the case may be out of stock. The green one from eBay.

Heat is a non issue with Haswell, it's meant originally as a Mobile chip.

Also, if you put the CNPS9900ALED HSF on it, heat will NEVER be issue.
Wow, Newegg has on sale right now too...

Intel might not ship a HSF with their retail cpu anymore, i don't think.
The ones they do ship tend to be sketch, hence why I recommend the copper monster to ya, it works wonders and is QUIET

So, again, if you are getting 2.5in SSD or HDD, they mount on the right side door. You have 2 good slots next to the PSU cage for 3.5in drives, the top 3 3.5in bays are removable by simply pressing to slats towards each other. If you get a dedicated GPU card, then count on storing that somewhere else. The 5.25in bay is dedicated on top for your optical drive.

It's a brilliantly organized little thing. They should offer another case without the handles for people who don't want the Mini Me Mac Pro look, but, that's why I recommended it to my buddy, he was building a Hackintosh and the look was part of the deal, lol.

As we move forward with all sorts of junk, like using the Kinect (you can buy it for PC too this fall btw) using more voice controls, maybe Kinect and it's gesture controls, etc, or just for pure faster processing, that processor and it's more threads win out. TECHNICALLY it's 8 threads can beat my 12 threaded i7 970 on full load with all threads used, and that's no easy feat. Not sure it can beat my 12 thread Sandy Bridge E, but my older still amazing Gulftown core chip, yep, it can beat it on full load. That was a $900 chip in it's day.

I have a similar Zalman heatsink its the CNPS9700LED its silver with Green LED.
The fan isn't in the centre like on the 9900 version. Use it in my computer in the living room on lowest fan setting to keep it as quiet as possible.

Here's an organized list of coolers by BEST RATING at Newegg.com. the Zalman's aren't the only option, but you can quickly realize why i'm trying to push you in that direction. Notice the first 3 don't say Low Noise

I've often wanted to use these, but, fitting RAM often becomes a problem.

Still no status on my parts from eBay, I have paid for them and they left positive feedback, lol.
Ill just wait it out and see.

As for future purchases I might try a few computer shops in Sydney city. Theres a technocity complex I've been meaning to check out.

    Wait and see for now.

So the eBay seller has messaged back to me that the green bit fenix case is out of stock, but they have a grey (I think he means white) but I said ok.
Also I couldn't change the motherboard as the H77 is no longer available, looks like I am building a haswell guys.

    Also I think I might go cheap on a 3.4gHz 4C4T i5.

Well instead of eBay I found a cluster of asian PC shops in the city where most my parts came from, cheaper too with easier returns / changes,

Just waiting on a random coloured Prodigy and the motherboard will ship with it, next week-ish.

    BuyingWindows 7 today
