Good find Yungstar. Here is the entire article:

Microsoft corporate vice president Marc Whitten speaks about some changes and additions Microsoft has made to the Xbox One since E3, including a 53mhz bump to the GPU speed.

Microsoft corporate vice president Marc Whitten has spoken about some of the changes and additions Microsoft is making to the current Xbox One development kits, including an increase to the GPU's clock speed and a new graphics driver.

Speaking on the podcast of Microsoft spokesperson Larry Hryb, Whitten said "this is the time, and this is the thing I think people are going to see as we get into Gamescom and people get their first look at new things since E3. This is the time where developers have the final dev kits in their hands, they're really working closely with us on how things have come together. There's some things that have really started to come together quite well."

Whitten also said that Microsoft's internal beta for the Xbox One was currently running, and that the hardware manufacturer was releasing daily builds for the console's operating system.

New additions to the Xbox One hardware since it was last shown at E3 include a new graphics driver and an increase to the GPU's clock speed, says Whitten.

"Since E3, an example is that we've dropped in what we internally call our mono driver. It's our graphics driver that really is 100 percent optimised for the Xbox One hardware. You start with the base [DirectX] driver, and then you take out all parts that don't look like Xbox One and you add in everything that really optimizes that experience. Almost all of our content partners have really picked it up now, and I think it's made a really nice improvement."

"This is the time where we've gone from the theory of how the hardware works--what do we think the yield is going to look like, what is the thermal envelope, how do things come together--to really having them in our hands. That's the time where you start tweaking the knobs. Either your theory was right dead on, or you were a little too conservative, or you were a little too aggressive. It's actually been really good news for us, and an example of that is we've tweaked up the clock speed on our GPU from 800mhz to 853mhz."

Unless I'm mistaken, and I well could be, if they want to do HSA like stuff then they can't 'just' increase the GPU clock- won't they have to increase the CPU clock proportionately as well?

    Damn good news regardless.

Still underpowered compared to the PS4, but good to see that they are going to try to squeeze every bit of power out of the hardware, it almost reminds me of the GHz Edition graphics cards for the PC.

It's amazing how close this gen is getting. I am glad the developers are liking these new consoles so much. I see some great games in our future boys!

i don't think i recall any of those people who matter (the dev's) saying it would. i just hear there pretty much the same system with John Carmack being the latest saying it.

it's a 53 mhz boost but every little helps in the end. this would be decent news on the xbox front.

I doubt either console will hold the other back. More power, I'm all for it.

No downclock, and a bit of an upclock, good news.

Now let's hope this GPU boost on the clock makes them confident enough to show the actual console running at Gamescom instead of a high powered PC with an entirely different graphics card.

I want to see both sides running games on the actual consoles at Gamescom, no more dev kits or high powered PC systems!

meh, i was expecting 600% increase! to the person worried about games running on the hardware, on the podcast they said devs now have the final devkits. that probably means the consumer hardware is also finalized and ready (gotta iron out the kinks and submit to the FCC).

can upclocking and downclocking be done via a firmware update?

I am pretty sure it can, I remember the PSP getting a clock bump to a faster speed in firmware 3.5, so I don't see why they couldn't do it with the XBone or PS4...

    http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/ps...hz-clockspeed/

It may not be the long-rumored PSP redesign, but if you've got a PSP, it underwent a secret upgrade last month when you installed firmware 3.50. Sure, Remote Play is nice, but what you'd really like is a PSP that's instantly 25% faster. We're not talking about fancy new UMD drives, or faster processors; it's the same old PSP but Sony's uncapped the existing processor from 266MHz to 333MHz.

Sony has confirmed to Shacknews that developers working on games currently in development (your existing games aren't going to run faster) now have access to the full CPU speed of the post-3.50 PSP. The clock speed was believed to have been limited previously to conserve battery power, leading to obvious speculation that this change would be made possible by a newly redesigned PSP, replete with increased battery life. If that's the case, what about these new 333MHz games running on our old battery-addicted PSPs?

I doubt the heat would be a huge problem. Stability is the bigger issue, they could probably go higher but it would risk the drivers crashing, I just tried my GPU over clocked by 50MHz and it works in some games but others not a chance, pretty much instant lockup.

And the games it did work it was an increase of 3C.
