Murder In Video Games Like GTA Is As Sinful As "Performing The Act" In Reality

In response to a viewer question asking if negative actions in video games were seen as sinful by God, Pat Robertson referred to games like "Grand Theft Auto" and said, "if you're murdering somebody in cyberspace in a sense you're performing the act, you like it or not."After noting that he has never played a video game, Robertson went on to explain that the "danger" of media like video games, television, and books is that you can "lose your sensitivity to God."
Robertson has previously warned viewers about the dangers of Harry Potter, television shows like Medium, and the "demonic" Twilight series.

video games were barely tangentially involved in that article, i don't get it?? o_O

i actually liked his response to the question. sure i don't share his beliefs, but he's not making them mine so kudos to him for keeping sight of what was actually important to him and the person asking the question.

this is how i would think all Christians would approach this subject. they'd do themselves a favour if they followed people like this guy, and not those raving lunatics who create misinformation in an attempt to make themselves wealthy.

I thought that he answered that in a very diplomatic and understanding manner that was true to his beliefs but didn't really ram the issue in anyone's face.

Its not sinful to me (I do not believe in god) but it is worrying that a lot of the top selling video games do contain murderous violence.

    Uncharted
    Killzone
    Halo
    Battlefield
    COD
    Warframe
    Shootmania
    Dust
    Bioshock
    Splinter Cell
    Deus Ex
    Arkham asylum
    God Of War
    Metal Gear Solid

Some of those you can choose not to do such acts but still are allowed to do them without it affecting the outcome too much.

I worry for the people that ring in and ask such questions, its a sif they do not have brains themselves and can be swayed into thinking a certain way.

I wish I could be a caller on that show because I'd ask him this:

So...if a religious person kills a non-religious person or a person that he believes in the name of God or because God told him so, that's then NOT a sin? It's suddenly a-ok?

    Another question, idiot

You are criticizing a virtual art form that holds no basis in reality. It's literally CG. What about movies that portray violence on-screen? They are suddenly ok because we all know they're movies and they're fiction?

Guess what, videogames are fiction too.

    Ok, last question, sir.

    Can I punch you?

This thread has degraded into bashing other people's beliefs ... which is not okay. I think we're all above that. If you would like the topic re-opened, feel free to PM me and I will clean up the posts in here.

Edit: Due to a few PM requests, this thread is now back open. Please abide by the rules in regards to religion. Thank you.
