You’re right; it does have something to do with the sound.

AVLS stands for automatic volume limiter system. it help prevent sound escaping from the headphones, as well as possible danger resulting from being unable to hear what is going on around you.

actualy its also for saving battery life it sets it to where you can hear it fine but is low anough to save battery life. all cd players have it and if you have certain headphones like mine sound doesnt escape.

and to answer the question it NBA from sony, nba street, and NBA live.

Referring to the PSP manual, that’s all it happened to say. (Nothing about saving battery life, but I imagine it does because of the reason you mentioned). My NetMD also has AVLS, but I never use it.
