    Bought a telescope....is this a good one?

So.........I have always wanted to kick back and check out the moon, nebulae, and other goodies in the sky. On impulse, I bought this model telescope.

Does anyone here have a telescope? And is this a good one to start with?

I haven't got a telescope but would love to purchase one. Love to hear some reviews from the one you bought.

Can you hook a camera up to it?

Apparently you can get a wifi adapter to align it while you are not there.

I see you live in Kansas City. Is the light pollution not a concern for you?

I wish I could say more on the matter. I once had a telescope, but my younger sister promptly broke it. Eh.

We used to have a telescope and I think it was a more basic version compared to what you've ordered. I've always wanted a decent telescope but I never know what to look for really!

That's a pretty good telescope. Not the greatest in the world, and spending a few hundred more could have got you a better one, but for the $500 and below price range it's extremely good. It comes with the essentials so you're not having to buy rings, mounts, and other stuff after the fact, and it performs the basic functions without being too complex to operate. Good optics and a good price.

    Overall a nice purchase.

Thanks man. I paid $250 for the setup. I will post some pictures I take with it, and eventually give my impressions on this telescope. I am still learning, as I am really starting off with zero knowledge.

Nah. We have plenty of clear nights that will allow me to get some good use out of it.

    That's a great price. It's normally a $400-$500 kit.

Can't argue with that deal at all.

Well I am so damn impressed by this telescope. I bought a 2xbarlow and a 40mm lens. I am so amazed that I can look at all the craters on the moon. I will see I can hook my laptop up to the telescope and take some pictures.

I'm not an expert on this but I've been researching for a couple years and I used to train people on photography.

    Cool. A couple of things.
You'll need a USB equipped camera to take pictures direct to a PC, or a telescope camera with SD/MicroSD or a camera barrel adapter for an DSLR or other camera.
Do you have a DSLR camera? Which one?
You'll want to go with a camera that can do long exposures, or stick with a barrel cam that is meant to be used with a telescope. Example:
    http://www.telescopes.com/telescope-...stemimager.cfm

It seems you need an RS232 to connect the PC to the Telescope to control it, not USB. Do you have a 9pin serial port on your machine or do you need to get a 9pin serial to USB adapter cable?

Thank you very much for your reply! You pretty much saved me the trouble of looking for what I did to get. I am going to purchase that imager tomorrow.
