PS3 Will Not Read Disc + Noises

Alright so after searching YouTube for a few quick easy fixes I decided it would be best if I posted for help somewhere. The issue started randomly when i decided to play the PS3 after having not played it for a considerable time, the PS3 runs fine, but when I insert a disc of any game it acts like it is going to read it but then decides not to, when I was trying the tilt it back trick I could feel it pulsating when it tried to read the disc, on for 2 seconds, off for 1. I usually hear a 2 clickish noise (Like when it loads or ejects a disc) and that is pretty much it.

I have tried sticks a second disc in after it which didn't work, and tilting in back which also did not work. I don't feel like playing a crap load of money to fix the console and was hoping for some tricks I could try to get it to read the disc.

    I almost forgot I have a PS3 Slim.

I had this issues with my slim PS3, some Blu-Rays worked while others didn't.
Had to open up my PS3 and replace the drive.

My ps3 has the exact same problem. Works like a dream except the fact it won't read ps3 discs!

I haven't actually fixed mine but I'm pretty sure a new disc drive isn't that expensive and it is certainly cheaper than buying a new ps3.

:/ Alright, do you personally know of any good vendors that would provide good service? I mean I'll Google it if you don't already know of any.

I think it could be the lens/laser that reads the disks, a reparation isn't that expensive I think

A way to avoid this in the future is to check the discs for scratches. If the disk is scratched, the lens has to become harder, and it'll eventually break.

Could be something else though, but it's possible that this is it

SONY wanted to charge me $130+ for it, lol. At that time the 12GB models were selling in stores for $199.
The drive I bought only cost $60. I could have gone cheaper by just getting the laser section but buying the whole drive was easier to install.

Tip: Use the right screwdriver and screws will come out a lot easier.

Mine started doing this about a year ago. It would read DVD's and certain BluRay discs/games, but the majority it wouldn't register. With GTA just being released, I decided to put some time in to fixing this yesterday. Everywhere I have looked point to the laser being at fault. You have two options really, replace the BluRay drive, or just replace the laser. Personally I would just replace the laser because if you do replace the whole BluRay drive, you need to take the PCB out of the old drive anyway so whilst it's apart, you may as well just replace the laser itself. Check on Youtube for some guides. Yesterday was my first time taking my PS3 apart and now I feel confident that I could get it apart, laser swapped, and back together in under 20 minutes. It really is simple to do.

I have just encountered the same problem recently, and I wanted to know if I need a new Blu-ray drive, or a new laser?

I never had an issue with either my 40gb PS3 or my slim. Sorry about your luck.
